June 2010 - Lucas Sangha
Lucas Sangha, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, June 2010

The Lucas Sangha Story,

What an inspirational story.... Lucas was introduced to me be one of our chosen clients of the month Tim Sangha, Lucas father.

When I first met Lucas he was a very lean not too strong young man. I told him that my life story was very similar to his. I was lean and had to gain more muscle to keep up with my sports I enjoyed to play competitively. I promised Lucas right from the get go that if you worked out the way I showed him and ate the way I told him that he too would be successful.

I am extremely proud of what Lucas has accomplished in the past 16 months. He has gained 35 lbs of muscle and not only that but his lean muscle ratio is greater than his bodyweight when he first walked into our studio.Lucas works out 4 days a week as regular as we brush our teeth..never missing one workout. His strength has increased 10 folds over. For example when Lucas began he would be challenged by doing ball squats against the wall. Today he is squating with more weight on the bar than he weighs. He is presently at 265 lbs on the bar for 3 sets of 10 reps. Just Amazing stuff.

Lucas likes to be challenged by making goals he sets his mind to. He wants to squat with over 300lbs and he wants to drive his body to gain more muscle. At the age of 20 Lucas is a polite, mature young man who I know will undoubtly continue his successful journey to accomplish everything he does. Lucas lives the life motto of "I CAN AND I WILL".

Congratulations,

Joey

TESTIMONIAL

I was introduced to Joey through my dad about 16 months ago. I have been training with Joey ever since. When I first saw Joey I was 18, 6 feet tall and weighed 150 pounds, I have always been fairly lean and active, but I wanted to gain some size and strength and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

I am proud to say I have accomplished all three of those things. I am now 20 and weigh 185 pounds, I am noticeably stronger and happy with the changes I have made, and excited to keep working towards new goals in the future.

Joey has been an awesome trainer and has also become a good friend, he has showed me how to train properly and safely, as well as eat healthier.

But more importantly he has taught me not to give up and has shown me just how far consistency and hard work can take you.

Thanks for Everything Joey.

May 2010 - Bill Pollock
Bill Pollock, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, May 2010

The BILL POLLOCK Journey,

A true story that will enlighten everyone. When Karen Pollock signed Bill her husband up for our 5th Annual Lifestyle Challenge I must admit I was very surprised. Bill was no stranger to me we talked on many occasions and he was a man who was quite active and physical from his job.He oftened complained about aches in pains in all his joints.

Prior to joining us in the Lifesyle Challenge Bill complained to me about his elbow pain..and I suggested a very effective joint formula..as the formula began to work an ease up on his aches and pain, Bill and I began on our journey. Bill is a very big strong indidvidual. So as soon as we began he realized he was unconditioned for the specific exerciseshe was required to do. We worked and polished his Nutritional habits, altered foods and increased water. Changed his beer consumption and 12 weeks later.. A VOILA....a new man.

Bill lost 26 lbs of fat from his body shred 13 inches from the areas that needed and gained lean muscle in the areas that required it. He became stronger, better conditioned but more than all that his limitations and his range of motion(ROM) became much better. His aches and pains slowly disappeared and even though he thought he could still do better Bill perserved to the finish line.

As the clear cut winner in our 2010 Lifestyle challenge Bill won an exercise Bike for his home, but from all of us at the studio he earned our respect and honor for his great dedication and willingness to change at 58 years old.

Congratulations Champ,

Best Wishes for your continued health,

Joey, Cindy, and Chris

TESTIMONIAL

I found the first 2 weeks challenging because my body was not used to the exercises Joey had me doing - you think you are a pretty strong guy and then Joey asks you to simply "lift your leg off the ground" and you can't!

After those 2 weeks were over, both my body and mind found the experience to be very enjoyable.

By tracking my food consumption I was surprised how much weight I could lose in a 3 month period - I added more protein to my meals, started snacking on almonds rather than junk, increased my water consumption and lessened my beer intake and I lost 25 pounds - which turned out to be all fat.

I will continue to track my food consumption and exercise on more regular basis to keep up the progress I have made.

Thanks to Joey and his staff for the Lifestyle Challenge Experience 2010.

Bill Pollock

April 2010 - Julie Wade
Julie Wade, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, April 2010

The Julie Wade Story

When Julie Wade walked into our studio last June I remember her saying "I know I have alot of work to do". Julie did not crack a smile or laugh too much on her first visit but she realized quite quickly that she came to the right place. Julie has been dreaming about crossing over from EMS to firefighting and finally reached her goal.

Julie's connection with Chris and his training techinques caught on in a very positive manner. Quite frankly Julie's progress was very evident day after day week after week and month after month. She began to soar and though there were many adversities along the way Julie perserved. Her journey here at the studio is truly amazing. Her support from love ones and all the clients at Able body was on a continuous manner.

Julie trained as hard as she could ate as well as she could and basically enriched her new choosen lifestyle with a whole new positive additude. Julie believed in herself and in this proceeded to succeed in her journey.

Julie's drive and determination is what has allowed her to accomplish her goal, and it is that same drive and passion that will both fuel and serve her for many more years to come! Julie is the perfect example of what you can achieve when you truely put your heart and mind into it. Congrats on achieving both your goal and your dream!

Bravo Julie

TESTIMONIAL

When I first stepped into the studio I had no idea I would be matched up with a personal trainer like Chris Joseph. Throughout the last year I have learned more about perseverance and long-term goals then I could have imagined.

I have been planning a career change for a few years now and new right away when Joey matched me up with Chris I would definitely be in for the long haul. There have been ups and downs that have all taught me different life lessons. If I could point out what I have found to be the most important one... Truly 100% believe in yourself. Nobody else can do that for you. This is not something to take lightly it truly is the crux that will either help you succeed or not.

I owe a huge thanks to Able Body for their nutritional and supplement support and guidance to help recover, repair and rebuild properly.Chris kept a smile on my face throughout the aches and pains and has taught me more than I could have imagined about pushing the limits and challenging myself daily. He is truly a dynamic individual with an amazing gift to be able to provide the caliber of personal training that he does day in and day out.

Cheers to many more days just the same!!

March 2010

We regretfully apologize for not having a chosen client for March. Instead we would like to make an acknowledgement to a wonderful achievement and very soft spoken young lady. Leanne Degruchy has successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. A climb of more than 18,000 feet or 5895 meters. Her father Richard(Dick) seeking assitance in helping his daughter accomplish such a feat. I automatically turned Leanne into good hands and Chris trained her for 5 months. In the 5 months of training he whpped 38lbs of fat from Leanne's body and brought her physical demands up to the elite level. Much congratulations to a very successful story ONE I'm very proud of. A very big congratulations also goes out to Chris Joseph for the terrific job well done.

February 2010 - Mona King
Mona King, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, February 2010

With the historic Olympics hosted here in Vancouver Canada and the positive patriotism for all our atheletes and their victories, there is no better candidate to be choosen as client of the month than Mona King.

Mona was a referral from one of our longtime clients and friends Michele Blanchette about 2 years ago.. Mona is one of those positive energy providers that can change your day with her smile. As we share some very hard workouts together Mona's mind set and laughter always outweighs lifes adversities.

She is one of those people that makes lemonade out of lemons...she has had her share of injuries which limited her lifestyle but she has turned them into one more reason to stick with her regular workouts here at our studio.

Along Mona's journey with us Mona has repaired her injuries and perservered to lose over 20lbs of bodyfat and has added beautiful shape and tone to her body.

It is my pleasure to award the client of the month to my Mona. I truly enjoy working with Mona everyday, she alway's gives her best no matter what and she is a pleasure to work with.

Thank you for the honor.

Bravo Mona

TESTIMONIAL

Being a Mom of 3 very busy children and a REALTOR® makes it very hard to fit in all the things that we know we need to do....

As a fitness instructor for many years myself, I know the importance of being consistent and persistent in my training. Sometimes as humans it can be difficult to practice what we preach. I have always led an active life and found it much easier to motivate myself to get the cardiovascular exercise that my body needs than the 'ever so crucial' strength training. My youth was filled with a variety of sports and along with that came a variety of injuries... Having the thought that 'Mind over Matter' would get me through did get me through my youth but left me with many vulnerabilities and weaknesses in my 40's that were holding me back.

About 2 years ago I had enough of my aching knees, back pain and chronic tennis elbow so I gave Joey a call. He was referred to me by a friend who spoke very highly of his knowledge and expertise. She spoke of how much he had helped her work through many of her ailments. After she talked about him to me for about 1 year I finally went to see him...

When I first started with Joey I began with baby steps. Joey's support, knowledge and encouragement kept me going. One thing that I have learned from Joey is that there is always a way. If something doesn't feel right he has an alternative. This way we could work around the weaknesses without causing more pain and I could get stronger at the same time.

I believe that strength training is one of the most important things that we MUST to do for ourselves as our bodies take us through life:

  • It keep us strong and able to deal with daily life.
  • It helps prevent injuries and helps old injuries heal.
  • It makes us able to respond to daily physical challenges and helps us be able to maximize our physical existence.
  • It increases our lean muscle mass which in turn increases our metabolism.
  • Strength training is a key component to a balanced life.

One of the best things about working with a trainer is that they make you accountable.... You can't fool them. Joey has pushed me to do things that I don't love doing but know I need to do and feel so much better for it. He is constantly challenging me and helping me become stronger and stronger all the time. I feel better than ever. More physically strong and balanced than I have in a very long time. I feel ready and able to move through my mid life, trying new things and enjoying every minute of it because I can!

    Thanks Joey!!! You Rock!!!

    VIOLET TESTIMONIAL

Strength training has been the missing part of my exercise routine. With all the information available I could not come up with an efficient plan for my individual needs. Back and knee problems are a part of life for me.

Working under Joey’s guidance I am amazed how I have been able to gain some fat burning muscle. I can actually see and feel the toning and best of all I am losing the excess from around my middle. He has tailored my program to build muscle to support my knee instability and back problems. It feels like they are becoming an issue of the past now.

When I am in the gym my time is maximized and well worth it . I work out smarter, stronger and safer. I feel having Joey as a personal trainer is time and money well spent..

    Violet

    BRYAN'S TESTIMONIAL

Violet and I began with Joey because of Violet’s observation that we needed to start to include some resistance training in our exercise program. As usual she was right. She’s also got me doing Bikram hot yoga, biking and walking, she sure does take good care of me!

I was impressed from the start with the facility and Joey’s approach. He took the time to find out what our goals were, if we had any physical problems and inquired about our eating habits and nutrition.

He then made sure we started the exercise program safely, always supervising and correcting making sure we get the maximum benefit from each exercise without the risk of injury. As we have progressed he is constantly modifying the exercises to continue to challenge our bodies and keep it interesting and fun.

His nutritional guidance has also been very useful. Although we were eating healthy his suggestion to increase protein has certainly helped to build some lean muscle and burn fat.

Thanks Joey for being there at 6AM as you guide us on our continuing journey toward health and fitness. Thanks also to Cindy and Chris although we’ve only worked with each of them once we found them both excellent trainers.

    Bryan

    December 2009 - Lynn McNaught

Lynn is a prime example than when you turn the big 50 as she calls it that age has no limits. Her tone and strength go hand in hand and we are very proud of all Lynn has accomplished in the past 5 years. The only thing is where did those 5 years go Lynn?

Working one on one with Lynn is a personal trainers dream, she is so kind and easy going. We are very fortunate to have her bright warm smile and her presence at the studio.Awesome work Lynn you look great and thanks for being a very good friend to me as well.

    Bravo my dear,

    TESTIMONIAL

Well I still have a hard time believing its been 5 years since I first started out with Joey. It was just a fluke, that I happened to pop in one day to see what it would be like to start working out in a "smaller" type gym with my own personal trainer.

I had sufferered from low back pain for years, and knew that I needed to get in better shape than I was.I had gone to several gyms in the past, but never had truly stuck to a program.I really wanted to... but it seems that something always came up or I just got too busy with my families schedule.

When I met Joey,I right away felt very comfortable with him and we were able to discuss with ease all my health concerns. He assured me that I could attain my goals no problem, and that we would slowly build my strength to where I wanted to be. After a few months,I realized how much better I felt and actually looked forward to my workouts!

Joey is so supportive and knowledgable and I really feel like he is a big part of my life.I see him 3 days a week, 2 -one on one work outs, and a Friday am boot camp.I can't imagine my life now without my regular workout routine. I no longer have any back issues and I am so much stronger and healthier than I was years ago.

I so appreciate Joey's happy smile that greats me every day that I walk into the gym.All the encouragement, advise and information he has shared with me over the years has truly helped me feel better-Physically and emotionally. I would definately recommend this wonderful gym and their staff to anyone who wants to get in shape and wants a very genuine, caring and honest approach. They can help you achieve any goals that you want to attain.

Thank-you Joey, and Able Body for providing such a great gym!

    Lynn McNaught

    TESTIMONIAL

I'm 57 years old and never felt better! I am stronger, firmer, have great balance, increased energy and endurance, all because I've been with Able Body since 2004. My initial visit was to "just feel better" and if I lost a few pounds that would be ok too. Little did I know that with the individual attention, care and real interest from a trainer I could achieve far beyond that.

My family was very surprised I would go to a gym as I had never been athletic even when I was younger but I needed a change. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, not terribly active and had never picked up a set of weights in my life. I started with one day a week, then replaced that by joining a group session twice a week, which I still attend, and have now have added Friday morning Bootcamp. I've participated in 2 Lifestyle Challenges where I learned a great deal about food and eating habits. In 2008 myself, my husband, sister & 3 -20 somethings went to Wild Play - Tree GO. We had a wonderful time and I completed the course with the 20+'s. What a RUSH!

The next time I went to the gym I gave Joey a big hug and thanked him for teaching me I can do anything. I never would have thought to even go to the park before Able Body days. One of the important things I get at Able Body is that the exercises are explained on how to do it correctly, what muscle is being activated & how to breathe. I still enjoy the encouragement, lifestyle tips and laughter Joey brings to each session while we're "sweating". The moans and groans whenever a "new" exercise is introduced is always good for a laugh because I'm not good with change but with time and persistence I've even grown to like some of them. Just ask Joey about calve raises.

My family is still surprised I've continued working out but I feel so good and that is worth everything to me. Thank you Joey & please don't ever retire.

    Sincerely,

    Karen Sturton - Pollock

    October 2009 - Wendy Harrison
Wendy Harrison, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, October 2009

I have come across many people in my lifetime who are strong determined individuals, but none like Wendy.

I can remember the day Wendy walked through our doors. She knew what she wanted and came to find out whether we could deliver the goods to her specific needs. She wanted us to guide her, motivate her and show her way's to regain her health.

Fast forward 5 years later and here is an individual who can go through the hardest adveristies in life and still show up for her regular workouts. Her mind set is amazing and she reaches every goal she sets. Wendy is a trainers dream come true, alway's ready for the next challenge and willing to work her hardest at it.

As a long term client Wendy has referred several clients to us, one being her husband Bruno. Thank you Wendy for all your strong will, and determination. You are an inspiration to us all.

    Lots of Love

    Joey, Cindy, and Chris

    TESTIMONIAL

I've never been one motivated to exercise. Like many, I was always saying, tomorrow, next week, next year... I'll get myself in shape.

In 2003, after two years of being welded to a computer desk finishing a Master's degree, I got up feeling old, flabby and practically devoid of energy. I went off to Able Body thinking it would be the same as my one attempt at a gym... I'd last a few weeks, get bored, make a million excuses and quit. Well,it's been 6 years and you'd have to chain me down me to keep me from my weekly sessions.

At 52, I'm in the best physical shape of my adult life, never worry about my weight and I feel more energetic and enthusiastic than when I was a teenager. I've learned the importance of drinking water and eating often and that keeping fit can be an enjoyable habit. Simple changes, enormous benefits.

Thanks Joey, you and your team really know what you're doing!

    Thank You,

    Wendy

September 2009 - Steve and Keli Slaughter
Steve and Keli Slaughter, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, September 2009

    The Slaughters Story,

A very inspiring story of a middle aged couple who came to our studio to help improve their health and to live a healthier lifestyle. The story I believe is their dedication to come to our studio.Steve and Keli drive all the way from their home in Parksville twice a week to workout.

They are determined to improve their nutritional program and their consistency to workout regularly with us at the studio and as well on their own is truly inspiring.

Keli's sore back has vastly improved and both Steve and Keli's range of motion a flexibility improve on a daily basis. They challenge their children on most family outings and their true dedication to one another is remarkable. With their support they will succeed in all their goals and it is true honor working with them.

For Steve and Keli there is only one way to look and that is up!!

    All the best,

    Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

Steve, and I joined Joey at Able Body Consulting in June of this year for several important reasons. We are in our forties with three very active children. However, we had neglected our own fitness to the point that weight gain and chronic back pain were becoming serious issues. Despite regular visits to the physiotherapist and massage therapist to manage the pain and work on flexibility, an active life seemed impossible. A family game of badminton or basketball was no longer as fun or as easy as it used to be.

We had visited other gyms but we never achieved our goals. We would work out on the same, boring circuits week after week without any feedback. Were we doing it correctly? What should we do next?

A turning point occurred when a friend recommended Joey. He understood our concerns and has guided us toward a more active lifestyle combined with leaner, healthier meals and snacks. The discussions over our daily nutrition logs have been both funny and informative. The feedback has encouraged us to experiment with food and our children our paying attention, as well. Although we have our slips, Joey has continued to encourage us.

Within the couple of months, we both noticed that we were moving more easily and with more energy. Steve could easily dash up the stairs without pain or loss of breath. My own back pain has eased, and my mobility has vastly improved. With each lesson Joey challenges our abilities with a variety of exercises that are stimulating and effective, yet not beyond our capabilities. Joey’s upbeat attitude and lifetime experience in fitness makes for a most enjoyable and inspiring work out.

We both feel stronger, livelier and more confident. We can also see physical changes as our muscles become more toned and defined. Our family recently enjoyed the ropes course at WildPlay in South Nanaimo – something we never would have attempted 5 months ago. Thanks to Joey, Steve and I both feel very positive about the future. The decision to join Able Body Consulting has been fulfilling.

    Sincerely,

    Keli and Steve Slaughter

August 2009 - Doug and Susan Tyce
Doug and Susan Tyce, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, August 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We are proud and honored to once again have a couple chosen as Clients of the month... Doug and Susan Tyce.

I can remember the day like yesterday when Doug and Susan came to visit with me.Doug called and made an appointment.... He sounded very serious over the phone about making some changes in both his wife Susan and himself...but like so many people who have walked in with good intentions but would probably never start.... Doug and Susan on the other hand decided to go through with the plan...and the plan was to get to get to work and do something about their condition and their list of injuries and pains they had for several years. From the get go Doug became the entertainer I really believe that Doug could and should be on TV as a comedian.I've often asked Susan" how and where did you find this guy".. But kidding aside these people really workout hard and they help drive one another to do better each and every workout.Their progress from day one is unbelievable and their consistency is wonderful. Their love and devotion for one another reflects on how they provide encouragement and support. What once looked hopeless for them to do is now a reality of huge amounts of successes for their future...

    Awesome Doug and Sue

    You guys are the best

    Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

After working physically hard from a young age and having a few injuries, then becoming inactive I found myself in extremely poor shape. By the time that I finally decided to do something about it I could barely climb stairs with bad knees, I had a shoulder that was very limited in range of motion and early onset of arthritis in my hips, not to mention several pounds of excess baggage and a bad back. As well Susan had some injuries of her own, with loss of movement in her upper body and loss of strength from in activity. We found that our active lifestyle of riding motorcycles and flying our plane, (and work) was quickly becoming extremely hard to do and was not as fun as it used to be.

I had gone to a gym several years ago with the physiotherapist that was treating me for a problem after an accident. I tried to keep it up afterwards but found it too intimidating and not very friendly. I regret the fact that I stopped going, as my body was the one that suffered. After Susan and I decided it was definitely time to do something about our problems I researched all the facilities around to see what they had to offer. It quickly became obvious that Able Body was the only choice that offers a great atmosphere and an owner with impressive credentials. I was not disappointed when we first met Joey. He appeared genuinely interested in our physical problems general condition. As it turned out Joey has provided a professional, safe, fun, and none threatening atmosphere to work on our weaknesses.

It has been only 4 months since we started with Joey and already both of us have noticed some big changes. We have noticed greater stamina, strength, flexibility and more confidence to tackle certain jobs and activities. He knows when to say “2 more” just when you want to stop. He keeps pushing at a safe and achievable pace for both of us. In spite of the heat, or how lousy the day has been for us, we look forward to our workouts with Joey. He has a great sense of humor that makes the time exercising go fast. The commitment to exercise with Joey every week is what we both needed. The motivation and encouragement he provides has me doing exercises that I would never consider or dream of doing only a few month ago. Now if we could only stick to the right diet, we will be on our way to a wonderful new lifestyle.

The first phone call to Joey to set up an appointment was the best and most important call that I have made in many years. We only regret that we had not met Joey long before we did, as we would have enjoyed the last number of years much more and in less pain.

Thanks Joey, for being an encouraging mentor and friend.

    July 2009 - Glenda Easthom
Glenda Easthom, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, July 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We are truly honored to have as client of the month for July... Glenda Easthom.

Glenda is one of the most active people I know. She demonstrates a true hard work ethic and is a truly inspirational individual. Glenda stops at nothing and lets nothing hold her back from enjoying life. When Glenda returned to Able Body she put her trust in us to help her rehab from a recent surgery. She wanted to recuperate and strengthen her body along the way. I mean this lady has goals she has drive and she has determination. Her body is healing at a remarkable pace as well as the progress in her tone and shape. Every time Glenda steps into our studio her friendly smile greets everyone. Her friendship with me grows everyday and our laughs together are contagious. There should be a limit to how much fun our workouts really are and I must say I enjoy them very much. To Glenda a remarkable woman who instead of staying on the couch and feeling sorry for herself came to Able Body and whipped her body into shape.

    Bravo Glenda

    Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

I first met Joey more than 2 years ago, not by lack of motivation for exercising, but to use his private parking space at Able Body so I could see my accountant in the building next over. Returning back to my truck I had some extra time, went into Joey's gym thanked him for letting me park. We talked briefly, he showed me around his facility then off I went.

A few days later I called Joey, set an appointment. I got serious about wanting to improve some of the minor aches and pains I had in my body from my lifestyle. We achieved this goal.

However I got back in my old routine of biking, running and I sprained my ankle. For months later of reduced physical activity and no improvement. I was then sent to an orthopedic specialist then diagnosed with torn post tibular tendon in two locations. This was not fun, surgery was scheduled for me in April as the only other option.

4 weeks post surgery I returned to Joey at Able Body for body strengthening and rebuilding. So far, very effective and I am seeing great results. This is one of the best ways to rehabilitate my body.

Joey the owner, my personal trainer and now great friend is helping me rehabilitate from a surgery - post tibular tendon repair. I am pleased to see my strength coming back throughout my body which in turn makes me feel positive about myself. I know that within a couple months I will be back running and cross country bike riding.

Able Body is an awesome place to experience a professional workout. I think it is the best training facility ever. Joey schedules my training appointments tailored to meet my needs, they are private, confidential and focused on my wellness. Joey is adaptable when needing to modify any of my exercises.

I recommend Joey to anyone who is interested in improving themselves whether it be from injury repairs, basic good body mechanics or weight loss. Joey is knowledgeable in so many areas, I believe he can help improve everyone.

    June 2009 - Carol Myers
Carol Myers, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, June 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We are very honoured to announce the client of the month for June - Carol Myers.

Carol has been an Able Body family member for several years, and even though she has seen a steady change in her body and conditioning she wanted to challenge herself with a nutrition program. Our 2009 Lifestyle Challenge was just the right addition to her program that she needed. Carol had been threw some job changes and had to travel on the road. Her program proved to be the missing ingredient, and in her 12 week journey with us, Carol stuck to her goals and lost 12lbs of body fat.

The great results were from carefully planned and healthy cooking.Carol exercised regularly as well and even prepared to compete in a Marthon along the way. She is a very determined individual who's heart is as big as her ambition to succeed. We are very proud of Carol's great successes and wish her many more in the future.

From all of us at Able Body

    Congratulations

    TESTIMONIAL

I have been going to Able Body for three years. In my mid forties I started going to a gym fairly regularly, but never seemed to feel better or get stronger.

I started with a ball class and after that finished, I joined Able Body's group weight training class. It was amazing, it gave me motivation to improve and I learned that a lot of the exercises I was doing on my own, I was not doing correctly. With Able Body's trainers help and encouragement, I got stronger and started to have more confidence in myself. I was able to quit smoking, a habit I couldn’t seem to get kick, even though I knew it was killing me.

Even though I was getting stronger and getting lots of exercise, I wasn’t losing any weight, in fact I was gaining weight. I figured as long as I exercised a lot, I could eat whatever I wanted.

My friend did the challenge last year and won. She decided to do it again and talked me into doing it with her. She did so well, I thought why not, maybe it would work for me too. I finally figured it out; I couldn’t eat junk food and expect to lose weight no matter how much I exercised. I followed the plan as best I could, given that I travel to Victoria for 3 days a week for my job. I stopped eating fast food and started planning meals to ensure I had food at home, so that I wouldn’t run out for fried chicken or pizza. I take breakfast and lunch with me for the days I am in Victoria and go to restaurants for a balanced supper. Once I got into the habit, it was easy and I am never hungry and rarely “cheat”. My clothes fit better, I have more energy and am totally motivated to lose the rest of the weight I would like to lose.

I have learned that you need a balanced life style, exercise and a proper diet to succeed and there is no such thing as instant gratification, its hard work and the results as so worth it.

I want to thank the trainers at Able Body Consulting for all your help and encouragement over these last three years; you have all helped me turn my life around.

    Thank you all so much!!!

    May 2009 - Brian Chatwin
Brian Chatwin, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, May 2009

We pleased and Honored to announce the client of the month for May Mr. Brian Chatwin.

Brian's journey with Able Body is truly inspiritional as well as heartwarming. Brian officially came to see me about 2 years ago to help reduce his bodyfat and possiblily prepare for his first bodybuilding contest at 59 years of age. Brian had his challenges with eating proper foods and making nutrition a lifestyle commitment. His Largest obstacle was when he found out he had prostrate cancer. After only 12 weeks of seriuos training and a short summer break Brian had to deal with his cancer and put his dream of competing off for another time.

Shortly after in September of 2008 Brian began his 8 months journey and program with a very early morning start every week to perserve his privacy and cofidentialty. He wanted strict measuring in his bodyfat regularlly and a very healthy sound balanced nutritional program. He needed a critical point of view on both his mind and body. He needed to train safely and correctly to not incure injuries threw his very upbeat training routine. He nedded to learn how to pose and practise his posing for hours on end.

Brian has awesome success in all he does. He is a very determined and driven individual that I have become to admire. On our recent trip to Arizona in his first bodybuilding contest He came first in his division...He is motivated to live long and healthy and to carry on what he has learnt, and who knows what the future is for Brian..All I know is Brian is truly a motitvating individual with lot's of passion for life and with the high standards he places on himself there is only one way to go for Brian and that is up.
    Congratulations Buddy,
    On all your Successes

    Your friend Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

My name is Brian Chatwin. I am 61 years old and 6’4” tall, 220 pounds.

I just entered my first body-building contest on April 25, 2009 in Phoenix in an INBF Competition called “Best of the West”. My trainer is Joey Palladini and he accompanied me to that event.

When I was 59 years old I decided that I wanted to try to get my body in shape for a competitive body building contest. Why did I want to do this? For years I followed a number of yoyo diets where I would attempt to lose body fat and maintain lean muscle mass. I could never get this to work. When I reduced calories it appeared that my body went into a famine mode and I lost lean body mass and maintained my fat. When I was 30 and got married I decided that I wanted to get rid of all my fat, so I started jogging and dieting. I brought my weight down to 205 pounds, but I still had significant visible body fat. This didn’t work.

It occurred to me that I needed to find someone to help me accomplish my goal of losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time. It was then that I realized that the people that held the secret to this were the body builders. They had to accomplish this because there was no forgiveness visually when they were on stage.

When I was 59 years old I decided that I needed a trainer who actually competed in body building and could, hopefully, transfer that information to me. I didn’t think that I could get this in Nanaimo and thought I would have to travel to Victoria or Vancouver on a weekly basis to work with a trainer. But I thought I would give Nanaimo a chance. I went through the yellow page and started phoning the list of trainers. The first one on the list was Able Body Consulting. I phoned and asked the person on the phone if he was a trainer and he said yes he was. I asked if he was a body builder and he started to laugh. I asked him what he was so funny and he said that he had been in about 20 competitions. I had to meet this guy. That was my first contact with Joey Palladini.

Joey worked with me when I was 59 and we got the fat levels down, but not to competition ready. In the Spring of that year I decided to take some time off and give it a run next Fall, which would allow me to enter a Super Grand Masters Competition in the Fall and Spring.

That September, one day before my 60th birthday, I was told by my doctor that I had prostate cancer. This sent me into a different journey that resulted in an operation that removed my prostate in January of 2008. The operation was a success and the cancer was beat, but I still had my dream.

In the following September, I reconnected with Joey and we started the program. When I started I was 27% body fat and I was 244 pounds. Of that 244 pounds, 67 pounds was fat. 177 pounds was lean body mass. I insisted that we do a body composition measurement every 2 weeks so that I could see that, in fact, we were winning the battle of gaining lean body mass and losing body fat.

The first 3 months were very difficult, as 80% of this whole program was diet. Joey had just completed a contest last year and I insisted on knowing exactly what his diet regime was to get a competitive body building fat content. Joey gave me the diet regime and I attempted to follow it religiously. The first 3 months, I kept having major cravings and falling off the wagon, but I persevered and after 3 months my body re-programmed and it was not at all difficult for me to stay on my diet. I even incorporated a trip to Japan to see my son’s movie premier, in which I steadfastly stayed on my diet regime, by bringing food for the air flight etc.

After 8 months, my body fat was reduced to 10½%. I had lost 44 pounds of fat and gained 18 pounds of muscle.

Joey is a great trainer and a great friend and not only do I thank him for the journey, but in showing me how to maintain a healthy body for the second half of my life.

    April 2009 - Laura Mercer
Laura Mercer, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, April 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We are very honoured to announce the client of the month for April - Laura Mercer.

When Laura first walked into our studio a few years ago she seemed shy and reserved. But like so many of our clients, soon discover our studio has a warm inviting atmosphere everyone enjoys. Laura wanted to shape her body for her wonderful new life ahead of herself. She was getting married and she was going on a beautiful cruise to Italy and Greece for her honeymoon.

Her results from very consistent workouts and sound nutrition were very evident and we had great fun and laughs along the way. Shortly after Laura informed me that she was pregnant. I remember that day very clearly when I made her laugh saying "here we are whipping you into great shape and you turn around and change things up on me" We laughed together, and I was so happy for her and Jeff. Our plan in these past 7 1/2 months is to make exercise and nutrition a total priority for both Laura and baby, and I'm very happy to say that both are doing extremely well.

Laura was concerned about a large weight gain that has not amounted to much at all. Laura's new goals are to continue her training here at Able Body as far as she can, to help make sure that her delivery will go smoother and that her recovery is much quicker. A very wise decision.

Laura is an ideal client who's bright charm and wit is a great flavor to the studio,
It is a true pleasure and honor to work with you Laura,
Wishing all the best in health,

    Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

I started with Able Body almost 2 years ago.  My motivation for going was two fold:
    (1)  to get back into an exercise routine and
    (2)  to get in shape for my upcoming wedding.

A few years before I had lost 60lbs and had kept most of it off but had noticed that the weight was slowly coming back on.  I knew it was time to do something different.  A family friend, Adeline, recommended Joey and Able Body so I thought I would give it a go.  Not being a natural athlete I have always found it intimidating going to a gym.  I was so happy to find a supportive team that encouraged you to push yourself to new limits and actually see results from all the hard work.  It was just what I needed and wished I had done it much earlier.

Our wedding was a fabulous event and I was happy with the results of my training but I knew I had more to gain by sticking with the gym and continuing to work out.  The more I trained the more confidence I had in myself and was less afraid to try something new for fear of not being perfect at it.  I felt stronger and more confident than I had in years. For me that is reward enough in itself.

In September 2008 my husband and I found out we were expecting our first child.  I was so excited but must admit the prospect of gaining 50lbs during pregnancy was daunting.   Joey assured me that with good eating and exercising that wouldn't happen.  As tired as I was on some days going to the gym was one of the best things I could have done.  It gave me some much needed energy and motivation to get me through the rest of the day.   In February I found out I had gestational diabetes and that really forced me to be more vigilant about the food I ate and the amount of exercise I got.  So Joey you were right...I have been eating well and exercising every day and I haven't gained 50lbs!    All of the exercise and food advice I have received has been invaluable.

The support and motivation that Joey offers is something special.  He pushes you to levels you didn't think you had in you and you leave the gym feeling better than when you came in.  I am truly glad that I made the decision to come to Able Body.  No matter what kind of day I have had, I always look forward to my sessions.

Joey you truly make working out fun for me and I thank you for all of your support.  I look forward to whatever challenge you have for me after the baby arrives in May!

    Hello Everyone,

The story of Tim is a common but unique story of how someone in their mid life years, choices not to give up ,but to fight back regain their healthy balance once again.

    TESTIMONIAL

I came to see Joey 14 months ago. I was 44 years old and had always been a big kid, having grown to my full height of 6' 3" by the time I was 15 years old. I had been suffering with back and shoulder pain for years. Though I was active, I was never able to find my ideal healthy weight. I started running about 10 years ago, which jumped my thyroid into high gear.

About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism). I weighed under 200 lbs and was weak. Friends and family would remark on how skinny I looked a comment I had never heard before. I thought I was finally getting a handle on my weight, but I still didn't feel healthy. I had radiation treatment to kill my thyroid and that was the start of a 6 month weight gain to 250 lbs. This was the point where I said, "I need to go see someone that can help me get into shape and create a personal healthy lifestyle for me".

Over the last 14 months with Joey I have brought my weight down from 250 to 223 lbs and more importantly, reduced my body fat by 10%! Today, I'm in the best shape of my life and I need to thank Joey, for giving me the knowledge and the tools that I need to stay on that path. Joey is a great motivator who's influence is like a coach as well as a friend. I have so much more strength and energy. I feel clean and proud of my accomplishments.

    Thanks Joey!

    February 2009 - Paul Pickles
Paul Pickles, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We are very honoured to announce the client of the month for February -- Paul Pickles.

Paul arrived at the studio last spring with the support and encouragement of his wife Susan. He mentioned he lives with ongoing hip pain, that it was time to look after his body. They had both had a family member pass away at a too young age. The gift of the unfortunate untimely death was a no nonsense approach to a lifestyle of fitness training for Paul. (some gifts come to us in strange ways)

At first, I realized Paul had a hard time moving his feet apart without pain. Hi literally walked as if he was on a tightrope His hips were stiff and most of the exercises had to be on the floor or standing using a wall to prevent falling. Falling is the leading cause of broken bones as we age. Paul's world of mobility and movement was severely restricted, I had to slowly guide him to improve in balance, co-ordination, range of motion and core strength. He took to training life a fish to water.

Paul has been training regularly for 9 months, in that time his body has changed from being stiff and restricted in movements to having the ability to enjoy many other tasks that previously were impossible.

He can do one (balancing) leg bowling squats, lunges and bicep curls, he can walk with his feet a natural distance apart now, a small - big miracle.

Paul is a dedicated, successful hard working man. Paul keeps his word. He has been a inspiration to me As he had so many things working against him and regardless of those obstacles , this man keeps doing what will buy him quality years in the future and what does improve his life today. Its been a pleasure to watch you get stronger, improve in your balance and flexibility. You have made a significant change in your life, you have inspired me in mine.

You have shown me how powerful consistent action and determination can be.

    Thank you,

    Germana

    TESTIMONIAL

I came to Able Body Fitness at 55 years old because I was experiencing such pain & stiffness in my hips that I was beginning to loose my ability to function on a day to day basis. My doctor had 2 solutions - heavy medication or hip replacement surgery. Putting on my socks & tying my shoes were becoming my own Olympic event. I am an avid golfer and I had seen my average tee shot go from 230 yds down to 190 over the past 18 months.

I needed someone to develop a training program for me and more importantly help me get the motivation to stick to the program. Germana has been a treat to work with over these past 9 months. She has kept my program challenging enough that I can see the benefits on a daily basis and varied enough to keep me motivated to keep improving my overall fitness. My strength and flexibility have improved to the point where I am back golfing on a weekly basis and I am enjoying life again.

The facility itself, the other staff members and especially the other clients have kept me coming back week after week. It is the friendly atmosphere at Able Body Fitness that is allowing me to succeed in my goal of overall fitness. I have a long way to go but I know I am on the right track with Germana and Joey..

    2009 - Keith & Kathleen
Keith & Kathleen, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, 2009

    Hello Everyone,

We have decided to restart our CLIENT OF THE MONTH for 2009 once again...

With a late entry for the begining of the year we would like to introduce you to Keith and Kathleen Wilson our chosen couple for client of the month.

Keith and Kathleen were introduced to our studio by one of our favorite long-term clients Donna McFarlane. As a newlywed couple both Keith and Kathleen came to our studio to firstly improve their golf swing. During this process they have realized that improving their own health and fitness = Improved Health benefits, better posture, stronger muscles, a toned up body and most of all some serious conditioning and rehabilitation for weak and previously injured areas. Both Keith and Kathleen are extremely dedicated and consistent with their workouts. They help encourage one another throughout out each workout and with their love and respect of one another, and challenge each new workout with jokes and sarcasm.

Great work you guy's and all the best.

    Sue and Joey

    TESTIMONIAL

Having "dabbled" with getting fit at several local fitness centers over the past six years, and having given up because the routines were boring, the exercises were the source of several chronic aches and pains and the staff couldn't care less if we succeeded or failed, it is a relief to find a real alternative: Able Body! Since joining several short months ago, we have come to look forward (as much as one can) to our twice weekly visits with Sue and Joey. Our workouts are exactly the right combination of work, sweat, giggling and work!

Our primary interest, outside of complaining about how hard the fitness routine is on any given day, centers around golf. Our focus, when we first came to Able Body, was to play harder, hit longer and be able to walk 18 holes without aching for a day afterward. Joey assures us that our commitment to fitness for golf this year has nothing to do with the record snowfalls and winter conditions preventing us from even hitting balls on the range. We're not sure we believe him. . .

Feeling the effects of aging when crawling out of bed, or limping off of the golf course are signals that it was time to make a choice between staying active (after sixty for one of us) and giving in to the effects of mistakes in our youth and damage from more current mistakes in our diet and fitness routines. We chose staying active, and Joey and Sue make us believe that was the right choice - from light-hearted challenges to sneaking five more pounds onto the machine - they challenge our bodies and energize our brains. And for that, we are forever grateful.

Writing a testimonial is not easy. . . we don't believe any of them on TV. But we don't care if this one is believed or not - less clients taking up trainers' time means more time for us to achieve the goals we've worked out with them! So non-members can drop in across the street for the smorgasbord - we're quite happy to be doing that work, sweat, giggle, work routine each and every week.

Thanks to all at Able Body.

    Keith & Kathleen

    May 2008 - Cindy-lou Akins
Cindy-lou Akins, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month, May 2008

Able Body would love to introduce the winner of the 2008 Fitness Challenge and the Client of the month: Cindy-lou Akins.

Cindy-lou is a classic example of an Able Body client who discovered through some small alterations in her nutritional planning and making an additional training day a priority to reach a goal that DARE TO DREAM can become a reality.

Although Cindy-lou was hesitant to try something different the difference was all she needed to succeed. Cindy-lou's positive outlook on life and her wonderful smile are a great bonus to our studio. She makes our classes more competitive and the fun our group has every Monday/Wednesday, and now at our new Friday Morning's Bootcamp, is truly inspiring.

On behalf of all the Trainers at Able Body, congratulations on all your success melting away the fat and inches like never before! You're the Greatest!

    Lots of hugs,
    Joey, Germana, Elizabeth & Chris

    TESTIMONIAL

I started with Joey in a group class with Able Body about a year ago after hearing how much a friend was addicted to her classes there. I struggled through for about 9 months, always going twice weekly and feeling stronger all the time but not super-enthused and not seeing or feeling any wondrous changes. Well, you get out of it what
    you put into it.

It took about a month after seeing the posters for the Lifestyle Challenge to convince myself to do it. I was really afraid to commit - it would mean I might have to DO something. All the girls in my class joined in and we pulled together for each other during the 12-week program. I continued with my twice weekly class and in addition, had a personal training session weekly with Joey.

I attended all of the workshops. I followed the eating plan. I kept a diary of food and exercise and worked on some of my own goals - one being bumping up my cardio. (A quick note here on food - trying new things is marvelous! Elizabeth has some tasty ideas - try the Mustard Dill Asparagus.)

Obviously showing up to class 3 times a week and planning, planning and more planning is work but nothing I have ever tried has ever been pulled together so quickly, so easily and so successfully. Germana talks about mind-body-spirit and that kind of thing usually goes over my head but at the end of 12 weeks I can tell you that my mind, my body and my spirit are working together to achieve optimum health and fitness.

The quiet, strong support that Joey gives so freely is incredible - when someone has more faith in your ability than you, it's amazing how hard you're willing to push. The help and guidance from all the trainers at Able Body has been crucial to my recent success of winning the 2008 Lifestyle Challenge.

    Thank you so much!

    Cindy-lou Akins

March 2008 - Barry and Shauna
    Barry, Shauna & Brooklyn

We are very honoured to announce our second couple at Able Body for client of the month for March -- Barry and Shauna.

This is truly a very heartfelt story with a great inspirational outcome.

Shauna had been first referred to our studio by her stepmom and one of our long-term clients, Eileen Braithwaite. The goal was to help aid Shauna into shape for her upcoming wedding.

A wedding that had to postponed because of a very sick groom to be Barry. As the story is told, Barry was diagnosed with brain cancer. Although he was under radiation therapy Barry's health was slowly deteriorating.

With Shauna's great love and support she wanted to give up her one-on-one sessions and turn them into couples training in which Barry and the family would participate. There was lots of time sharing and devotion throughout each great workout. There was a great family support unit and at times lots of great one-liner jokes each and every session.

Barry became stronger and more determined with each workout and Shauna followed suit with her support and changes to her body as well. The children Brooklyn and Tanner both would be at the studio doing their thing as well and supporting both their parents. As time went on Barry's recovery into going back to work had taken a back seat to his receiving the great news of getting a clean bill of health from several check ups.

Once again time as shown us that with LOVE, DEVOTION and SUPPORT only great things can happen.

Barry and Shauna honour us with great success and inspirations.

Here's to your health and the upcoming wedding.

Lots of hugs from the crew at Able Body,
    Joey, Germana and Elizabeth

    TESTIMONIAL FROM SHAUNA

In July 2007, I walked through the doors of Able Body Consulting looking for a quick fix in getting into shape for our upcoming wedding. Being an instant gratification kind of girl, and with good old reality TV leading the way with shows such as Biggest Loser, I thought that joining up with a personal trainer was going to assist me in dropping the weight quickly. Boy, was I mistaken. Joey has taught me that weight loss is more to do with balanced nutrition, exercise and a change in lifestyle. I am learning that a healthy lifestyle is a process that doesn't just happen overnight but with the encouragement and guidance from Joey, I am confident that I am heading in the right direction.

In March of 2007, our life took a drastic turn when we were told Barry had Brain Cancer. Three months after surgery, and part way through the radiation therapy, Barry found himself 50 lbs heavier (due to the medications) and having difficulty making it up the stairs in our home. In August, 9 days before we were to marry, Barry landed in the hospital again, this time just as serious, diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung. In November, we signed up for couples training in order for Barry to rebuild his strength. We found that with couples training, it allowed us to give each other the support of getting healthy together, as well as giving each other that little push to make us work just a little bit harder ... or at least me ... right Joey?!?! Being in such a physical job, we knew that Barry was going to need some help in getting his body back to the strength he had before. Joey took the time to find out exactly what Barry had been through, what he needed to do to get back to work, and customized a program that would work for what we needed.

We are very pleased to report, that treatment has now come to an end, and we have come through two check-ups with clear results (no cancer left). Needless to say, it has been a very long road over this last year, and we still have a ways to go, however, we know we have the support and encouragement of each other and a great team of trainers at Able Body Consulting!

P.S. And the wedding is back on for August 2008!

    TESTIMONIAL FROM TERRY LONSBERRY

In November 2007 I walked throught the doors of Able Body a very sick man. At only 40 years old I had uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and coronary artery disease not to mention being severely obese. I had spent most of my life a victim of modern medicine, one pill after another and every one making me sick in its own way. It was a seemingly never ending circle that I was starting to think was going to kill me in a very quick way. Being still a young guy and having a wife and 2 teenage daughters I knew in my heart I had to do something but didn't know what or where to make this very needed change in my life. Then after a long search of local gyms and running into the people that didn't want to deal with "people as sick as me" and with the help of my Mom's neverending support and time searching the internet we found Able Body.

A short sit and chat with Germana later I knew this was the place for me. The very next day I met Joey and my world changed. I now have the tools and motivation to acheive my goals, and with Joey's expert guidance, endless knowledge and sense of humor I am turning my life around. For the first time in the 8 years I've had diabetes it is 100% under control with just diet and exercise. Also my blood pressure is normal, I'm losing weight and my doctors are shocked. Gone is the feeling of being trapped in my body and the choking prescription bills -- YAA!! I still have a long road ahead of me to reach my goals but with Joey, Germana and Elizabeth behind me cheering me on and giving that little push when needed, I now know that I'm going to acheive my goals and more. The warm surroundings of Able Body are now a highlight of my week and I can't wait for my next session to start.

THE RED SERGE WILL BE MINE, JOEY !!!

    Thanks for the support Joey,
    Terry Lonsberry

    January 2008 - Pat Shannon
Pat Shannon, Able Body Client of the Month for January 2008

We at Able Body are thrilled to kick off our New Year 2008 with our Client of the Month for January: Mr. Pat Shannon.

Pat was introduced to our studio by a young lady who won our Health is Wealth Fitness Challenge 2007, Ms. Paula Anderson.

When Pat Walked into our Studio he was bothered by previous injuries, with limitations in his range of motion which really annoyed him and had created a feeling of helplessness. Like so many of our clients before him who through our doors, Pat discovered that there was plenty of hope and realistic goals he would soon accomplish.

Through his own determination and perseverance Pat has made astounding results with his new-found body. His workouts are performed in a very sheer determined and intense fashion with every step towards a well planned goal.

He rarely misses his workouts and continues his quest for a great long and healthy lifestyle. He will enjoy playing golf and other sports he wants to and he will be able to improve in any one of them. Pat is a terrific client with a keen sense of humor. He definitely makes the atmosphere in our studio more bright every moment he is here. Pat is a role model client for all to follow.

    Great Work, Pat!

From all of us at Able Body -- Congratulations!

    TESTIMONIAL FROM PAT SHANNON

It has been six months since I began my journey with Able Body Consulting. During that time I have enjoyed an experience that has kept me coming back week after week. Elizabeth has been my trainer and along with Joey’s expert input I have successfully been able to turn the tide on a body that was breaking down at a rapid rate. I am 54 years old and with the onset of age, being tied to a desk, and an overall lack of activity I was experiencing pains and discomfort that was leaving me feeling depressed and sorry for myself. I had been very involved in sports in my younger days and have always be a bit of a gym rat, but when I started going back to the gym on my own I found that I was always hurting myself. I would then be forced to take time off to heal, the body would deteriorate further and the cycle would start all over again.

It was at this time that I heard about Able Body Consulting and decided it was time to try something different. From the time I walked into the Able Body studio I knew I was making the right decision. The staff is consistent in their message and pushes you as hard as you can safely be pushed. I can guarantee that the majority of people that go to the gym do not push them selves as hard as you push your self with the help of Able Body trainers.

I do not hurt myself any more!!

I had a shoulder problem that prevented me from enjoying my current passion … golf. Elizabeth and Joey have shown me how to work with weights and incorporate stretching techniques that have improved my shoulder to almost 100%. I also have major problems with my knees and again with patience and perseverance Elizabeth and Joey have helped me to improve this problem and increase my overall leg strength.

I find myself looking forward to my three sessions a week. I find it invigorating, my energy level is higher and I feel better as well as a lot stronger. I have been given expert guidance with regards to diet and as a result of all of this I am losing body fat but gaining lean muscle.

To sum it up, being part of the Able Body family has been a very positive move for me. I look at my training as preventative maintenance for my future as well as an improved quality of life for today.

As Elizabeth pointed out the day I joined the Studio, “Most of us do not hesitate to invest in the material things in our life, we have car payments, mortgages, etc., but we hesitate to invest in our selves.”

I have invested in myself and I see it paying long term dividends.

    Yours truly,

    Patrick Shannon

    October 2007 - John Hough
John Hough, Able Body Consulting Client of the Month October 2007

With fall upon us, it is a great pleasure to announce our client of the month for October: Mr. John Hough.

John's real reason for first stepping foot into our studio was because he literally works next door to us on Baron's road. After several pop-in visits and many questions, John was convinced that he needed some help in conditioning himself for golf . . . the sport he adores.

John fast realized that we, at Able Body Consulting, tailor our programs to our clients' needs, and that includes specific needs as well. John began to learn new techniques to condition himself for golf. His program is regimented to twice a week sessions which he rarely ever misses. He also does extra work at home involving a proper and safe stretching routine.

When John and I first played golf together nearly a year after he started his golf conditioning program, I was truly impressed by how well he struck the ball. To better describe his stroke, it looked effortless and smooth. Even though he had forgotten his putter that day, he played exceptionally well with very few errors in his game. I offered my services as a caddy as well as his personal trainer if he goes for his PGA card. The offer still stands, John.

John walks into the studio and greets us with one of his funny jokes. He is referred to as THE JOKER. Our studio has attracted many great people and their wonderful personalities that we as trainers are thankful and often  times blessed with great new friendships. I am proud and honoured to call John my good friend.

It's a pleasure working with you, Big John!

    Cheers,

    Trainer Joey

    TESTIMONIAL FROM JOHN HOUGH

In January 2006, after a day of skiing, I woke at Mount Washington unable to get out of bed without extreme back pain. Having recently turned 50 and wishing to maintain an active lifestyle, I sought treatment from a chiropractor. Originally I was receiving treatment twice a week. After he stabilized my back I decided that my flexibility and core strength needed work. My two passions are golf and adult tee ball (slow pitch). Both of these sports require flexibility to perform at a reasonable level. I good friend of mine trained with Joey and recommended that I see him to improve my flexibility. So, I started working out with Joey in July 2006. Within six weeks I could see a remarkable difference in my golf game. My stamina improved immensely. I was finishing a round of golf with strength instead of fading as I tried. I can feel and understand my golf swing and I am striking the ball better than I did in my twenties when I was a three handicap. At slow pitch my shoulder no longer hurts after a game and the outfielders no longer play me as shallow as they used to do. Life is good. I only visit the chiropractor once a month not out of necessity but more of a social meeting. The other side benefits have been a reduction in my waist size and a slight weight loss. Without Joey and the other staff members' encouragement at Able Body Fitness, I doubt that I would have changed my exercise routine. I have three goals over the next year and with Joey's help I know I will achieve them. They are as follows and not necessarily in listed in order of importance:

    1.    Lower my body fat (solution: drink less beer)
    2.    Learn how to putt (solution: mental)
    3.    Decrease the effects of working hard (that one is for you, Joey).

Thank you, Joey and Able Body,

    John Hough

    August 2007 - Faye Lutze
Faye Lutze, Client of the Month, August 2007, Able Body Consulting

Congratulations to Faye Lutze. All of the trainers are proud to announce that she is our client of the month for August 2007.

Faye became a client of Able Body Consulting over 5 years ago. Her decision to use our services came from a desire to look after her health and wellness on all levels. She didn’t want to waste time doing exercise improperly so she took that step. She hired Able Body Consulting -- Germana Rovinelli -- and got active and stayed active. Way to go!

Faye has evolved from uncertainly and confusion to absolute clarity and certainty in so many areas of her life. She has proven that she is unwavering in her commitment to self-improvement and that she takes her health very seriously. We consider Faye to be an excellent role model for others. She is an amazing woman and a wonderful client. We Love You Faye! Her perfect attendance, consistency and hard work have been key factors contributing to Faye’s remarkable success.

In addition to her work at the studio, Faye has incorporated responsible eating habits into her lifestyle as part of her overall life style transformation. We believe that because of Able Body’s influence Faye has grown taller (her posture and self esteem have improved!), Faye has become smaller (due to all the inches she has lost!), become stronger and has developed a natural sense of inner strength and courage.

It’s always a pleasure working with such an outstanding individual. Here to your future successes Faye!

    Faye has inspired us all.

    Be Proud!

    Love, Germana Elizabeth and Joey!

    Testimonial from Faye Lutze

As I reflect on my last five years at Able Body Consulting I am filled with gratitiude. Over the years I have trained with Germana and I now work with Elizabeth. I was so excited to be chosen client of the month. Thank you Elizabeth, Germana and Joey.

When I say five years, this is really very admirable for me. I had the personality of one who would get all excited about a new journey, new activity, etc., however, I lacked the determination to continue. I thought it was more challenging or exciting to try different things. Because of the positive support and encouragement, I perservered and today I am so thrilled.

I know I tested Germana and now Elizabeth's patience when they have to model (more than once) the routines of an exercise. Thank-you for being patient and recongnizing my needs. Today I am more gentle with myself when I accept myself and know I am accepted just as I am.

When I began exercising, I totally lacked flexibility. In order to turn my head I had to turn my entire body. Recently I have been working on my posture and strengthening my core. Today when I hear dialogue such as, 'Drop you shoulders, chin down, elongate your neck,' I know these are words of encouragement because they are followed by, "Wow! Look at that muscle! See how your top is hanging off you! What a tight bum! You've lost so much weight!" A great feeling.

It was while I participated in three Life Style Challenges with Germana and Joey that I became more cognizant that all parts of my life must be balanced in order to be healthy. I became serious about nutrition, excercise, sleep, water: a connection of mind, body and spirit. I accepted the role and responsibility and I accepted that the change does present challenges and hard work. I actually came in 4th place in this challenge and the before and after pictures were amazing. Thank-you for challenging and believing in me.

I feel great today, for the most, much healthier and more energized. I am so grateful for the continued support, encouragement and positive affirmations I hear whenever I enter the studio. As well, I am so appreciative for the love and compassion I receive as we listen and share together during our workouts.

    Hugs, Faye

    June 2007 - Clayton Hoy
Clayton Hoy, AbleBody's Client of the Month for June 2007

It is with great pride and pleasure that I share a part of Clayton Hoy’s journey with Able Body Consulting- Client of the month June 2007.

Clayton had a very personal Fitness Challenge from the day he walked through our doors at Able Body Consulting.  Clayton was concerned about his overall health, not happy with his weight and was lacking an overall feeling of wellness in his life.  I commend you Clayton for reaching out when you did. In his entire life, Clayton had never worked out before now. His progress has been remarkable over the last two months. He has lost 13 pounds of unwanted fat, gained 4 pounds of lean muscle and lost 16 inches overall!

As we attempted to book his first session Clayton asked if it was “Okay to go to Tim’s” before his workout. At that moment I knew I was going to have my hands full! I’m not sure if he ever did go to Tim’s prior to our first session, but from that day forward Clayton has been, and continues to be, 100% dedicated to his own success. He comes to every session ready to work hard and have a good laugh. He has also been open to developing new healthier lifestyle choices. Change is never easy, but Clayton has worked hard at adapting new fitness and nutrition changes as part of his new self. He has demonstrated consistency to himself and to others. He admits to coming in to the studio even on the days that he doesn’t feel like it….usually he confesses this at the end of his session once he feels better - and he always does! Everyone knows what that feeling is like, but only the few that persevere and remain true to their goals can experience the sweet victory over one’s self.

Truly an inspiration and role model to others, Clayton also has a fantastic positive energy and great sense of humor that is well received by all at the studio.  Congratulations to a job well done Clayton. We look forward to being a part of your future success.

    Testimonial from Clayton Hoy

Having been a huge supporter of the Golf Channel, I have probably watched more infomercials about useless golf paraphernalia than most people want to see in a life time! All these “amazing products” have people giving testimonials about how great the product is.  For this reason, I have never been one to put a lot of stock into someone’s opinion, whether paid to say it or not, for a product or service. This is why I find it odd to be writing the same form of an endorsement, that I mock on a regular basis.

Having said that, it is with much admiration and respect that I bring you my story of success with Able body Consulting. I have been training with Elizabeth for two months and have never felt better. I have tried for years to go to a gym, or go on some useless diet that worked for a while until I gained even more weight than I lost! The accountability and support I receive from not only Elizabeth but the whole staff at Able Body, has given me the confidence I need to achieve my fitness and weight loss goals.

It’s not easy, it’s not a quick fix, but it has become an enjoyable part of my weekly routine and I look forward to each session. I have increased my stamina, lost weight, and more importantly, have increased my driving distance by twenty yards. Look out Tiger!

    Thank you Able Body

May 2007 - Darlene and Steve Pierce
Darlene and Steve Pierce, AbleBody Consulting Clients of the Month, May 2007

We at Able Body Consulting are extremely excited and pleased to announce our Clients of the month ... our first couple ...
    Darlene and Steve Pierce.

The Pierces first walked through our doors in August of 2006 with the encouragement from their daughter who had bought them a gift certificate each, to help one another to regain their health which they both felt was deteriorating.

Darlene and Steve supported one another with tremondous love and encouragement ... and within a few short months saw incredible gains in both range of motion and strength ... as their flexibilty grew better through consistent workouts the Pierces became interested in lifestlyle changes. They both have increased their water intake and have taken nutrition alot more seriously.

Both Darlene and Steve have made huge increases with the exercises they preform -- starting some exercises with little or no resistence to 3 to 5 times the weight. Darlene uses 12lb dumbells and balances on Bosu, something she thought was impossible to do. Steve, on the other hand, will use back exercise with over 60lbs and bench presses 20lb dumbells with ease.

The Pierces are definitely two very hard working indivduals working towards the same goal: their health and retirement. All of us here at Able Body  are thrilled at your success and wish you all the best things life can offer. You are role models to everyone who has given up sometime in there lives, and an inspritation to all about what love and devotion can do for one another. You are both the greatest!

    Lots of love,

    Joey

Testimonial from Darlene and Steve Pierce

Wow, couple of the month. Who knew!  Steve and I started this journey with a gift certificate from our daughter. We already knew all about Germana through the admiration our daughter has for her, but as fate would have it, when the guilt of not honoring the caring behind the gift overcame our lack of ambition to join, Germana was away and we ended up with the infallible Joey! How does one describe Joey? I guess the best way is to start by describing the challenge – us.  50+, Steve was basically allergic to gyms, I was in grieving mode re a disability and the thought of “doing it together” was a dream memory from decades past. We were not what you might consider “eager beavers” for the fitness road. Certainly not a task for the faint hearted to take on.

Fast forward 8 months. We both have more energy, flexibility, and strength.  Steve’s found his muscles and lost weight and my clothes are feeling a lot more comfy, dare I say it - even loose. Joey’s ability to gauge the needs of his clients is phenomenal and although he watches closely re your limits, he continuously adds challenges without a person realizing it. Before you know it you are balancing on one knee on a Bosu, or you can’t quite put a finger on it but you know something’s different, then you glance at the weights you just finished with and you’re up 10 lbs. without a hitch. Later he’ll casually throw in a balance board and there you are – balancing like you’re a kid again. He is a fantastic motivator and, as Steve says, good at talking you through challenges. The gym’s motto “Believe in Self” has become easy to adopt, and Steve and I are not only looking forward to retirement possibilities, but most importantly looking forward to life in general.

In addition, Joey’s patient persistence has given us a life style that we can continue to build on for life. He has a subtle knack of educating you as he guides you through the exercises. Incredibly you begin reading the label of every grocery item you grab, look for protein snacks and drink lots of water to enhance the feeling of health that you’ve gained. And as for the “togetherness route”, working together on the fitness road we have re-establish our team of two (something that can go off base when so many years are spent focusing on raising kids and basic survival). And as an added bonus those days when the honeymoon stage is negotiable, Joey has an answer for that called “the medicine ball” (something that you need to experience to relate to the benefits).  So, at this point the “not so eager beavers” are now focused and “eager for our training days”. Joey and Able Body Fitness Training have given us the greatest gift of all - Hope for a healthy, mobile, fun-filled elder hood.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…

    April 2007 - David Braithwaite
David Braithwaite, Able Body Client of the Month, April 2007

David Braithwaite came to our studio in November of 2005.

His original goals were to improve his cardiovascular fitness, overall strength and endurance, in order to improve his golf game and overall quality of life.

He came to his sessions with an open mind; he was determined to do his best. He had a knee and shoulder problem that needed rehabilitation training. Within 3 months his muscle imbalances disappeared. We have watched David get stronger every week.

In fact, his baseline strength has doubled in some exercises and tripled in others.

David’s body is physiologically younger now than his chronological years, all because he has made a consistent commitment to look after himself.

We are very grateful to have a client with your honesty, integrity and determination.

Here is what David has achieved. He went from a Body Composition that was in the High Risk zone to the Excellent range for his age @ 60 years young.

David has dropped 20 pounds of unhealthy body fat and gained 10 pounds of lean muscle mass. He walks taller and looks fantastic.

David’s wife reports that he has more energy, better stamina and he just keeps getting stronger.

We actually need to order in more free weights just for him! Way to Go, David!

All of us are privileged to work with you. You have what it takes to succeed at what ever you choose to do.

    Mission accomplished.

You’re a fantastic client David! Thanks for being such an incredible role model and inspiration.

    Testimonial from David Braithwaite

When I first started at Able Body Germana asked what my objectives were. I said that the reason that I was there was because my wife felt that I need the training for by own health. Within three weeks of starting, my shoulder which had bothered me for nine months was no longer giving me the pain that I was becoming used to. In the first few weeks I would drive to the gym and sit on the bike to warm up. To me that was boring and I did not want to do it so I began to walk the two kilometers to the gym. At first it took me a good 15 minutes to make the trek and found myself huffing and puffing by the time I arrived. Now it takes me less than 10 minutes as I walk part way then run part way and walk again.

I now have more energy and feel great. I don't ache when I get out of bed in the morning.

As for Joey and his golf training. He told me that he could add another 50 yards to my drives, but all that means is that my drives are 50 yards further into the woods.

Thanks to the trainers at Able Body.

    February 2007 - Wendy Smitka

Wendy Smitka, Able Body Consulting Client of The Month February 2007

Wendy's 1 year journey here at Able Body is something of a rare nature. Even though she only dropped 7 lbs of body weight, she has lost nearly 20 inches from her body and reduced her body fat percentage from a 32.3% to a well achieved 24.7%.

Her transformation has been a well planned, sheer determined and extremely dedicated 3 days of training per week -- never missing a workout! She also enjoys her walks to and from our studio.

Wendy always comes into the studio with one of the warmest smiles and then gets right to work. She is wise in her choices of goal settings and she is resilient in achieving each and everyone one of them.

For us at Able Body, Wendy is not only our client of the month for February, she is a model client who we enjoy and are proud of every step of the way. Wendy is a trainer’s dream come true and is always a pleasure to work with.

    Testimonial from Wendy Smitka

I’ve tried weight training in the past only to become bored or injured.  It’s so easy to find reasons not to exercise but last year I was turning the big 50 and I knew I needed to do something.  I was putting on weight, my clothes were tight and I was forever putting my back out.  When my friend David told me how much he enjoyed Able Body I decided to give it a try.

I felt at home right away. Germana listened to my goals and developed an exercise plan to achieve them that allowed me to develop core strength without injury.  What’s more it was far from boring!  Germana is forever changing my routine.  When I hear that “evil monkey laugh” I know I’m in for something new and challenging.  I now find that exercising isn’t something I’m supposed to do but something I look forward to.

I also have the privilege of working with Joey.  When I set the goal of doing chin-ups he took me seriously.  I’m still working at it but he never lets me doubt myself.  Joey has a way of making you push yourself without ever being pushy; a skill very few of us ever master.

A year after I began training I’m down to my target weight, I haven’t put my back out in months and as for my clothes…I’ve given most of them away as I’ve gone from a size 10 to a size 6.

I’m off to Costa Rica this month and I just have to say thank you Germana and Joey.  At 50 you’ve made bathing suit shopping fun!

    January 2007 - Jeff Allen

Jeff Allen, Able Body Studios' Client of the Month January 2007

TYPICAL STORY OF DAVID VERSUS GOLIATH

We are extremely pleased to kick off the New Year by announcing January's Client of the month, Mr. Jeff Allen.

Jeff walked into Able Body Consulting at first to address some injuries he had in July of 2004. Training Jeff correctly was our main concern, but in 2005 after just making the cut line of the Firefighters Challenge he had decided to give up. Jeff felt that he was too old, too small and not strong enough to be hired as a full time Firefighter and was letting his dreams come to an end. What happened soon after is a TYPICAL STORY OF DAVID VERSUS GOLIATH.

We here at the studio would not have any of the negative energy flow around Jeff. Jeff had to revamp his positive energy and get right back to working hard towards his goals. Maybe the other candidates were younger or maybe they were bigger, but what Jeff learnt was that he was going to be pound for pound one of the best conditioned athletes
competing for his dream, his goal, his job. He learnt that he was DAVID and that GOLIATH was reaching his goal. We are very happy to say that Jeff has recently succeeded in his Quest and is a full time Firefighter for our beautiful city of Nanaimo -- a truly inspirational accomplishment.

Jeff shows us that you may not succeed at something the first few times you try at it but to never give up.

We are both very proud of your success Jeff and wish you all the best for the new year and prosperity in your new job.

    Trainer Joey

    Testimonial from Jeff Allen

I was truly honored by Joey and Germana's request to be profiled as January's Client of the Month.

I have rediscovered something about myself in the past year or so that was right in front of me all along, that was TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF no matter what.

I'm sure many people will agree when I say that when you see physically large younger people being hired at a job position you have been trying to succeed at for the past several years you will begin to lose confidence as well as faith in yourself and think "NO WAY, I DON'T HAVE A CHANCE." That was until I went to the studio.

I was introduced to Joey through Germana because she thought it would be a great fit -- she was absolutely right. I needed to train to compete in a Fire Fighters Challenge circuit that could lead to
being hired as a full time fire fighter for the city of Nanaimo.

To be honest, this has been MY LIFETIME GOAL AND DREAM.

Joey knew exactly what I needed to do and encouraged me to believe in myself. Joey made me train like I never had before: different movements and training methods, nutritional planning, correct supplements. I could feel and see my muscles grow immediately, in fact, I gained close to 15 lbs of hard chiseled muscle in just over year, something I could not achieved without him.

I am very proud to say that through all my hard work with Joey we both succeeded at knocking off close to 1 full minute off my time from the previous year at the Fire Fighters Challenge and have been hired to
work full time as a fire fighter for the city of Nanaimo -- a dream come true!

Thank you, Joey, for being there for me, being a great Personal Trainer, an awesome coach as well as an inspiration. I am also very proud to call you my good friend. Thank you so much for all my success
and look forward to many more incredible workouts with you.

Wishing you all the best things,
    Jeff Allen

    December 2006 - Lori Prokopenko

Lori Prokopenko -- Client of the Month, December 2006

Our Client of the Month, Lori Prokopenko, came to us a recommendation from her kind hearted boss.

Lori started weak and a little intimidated.

She was willing to work regardless of her present fitness level.

Lori did Personal training for a few months were she discovered that she has muscles all over her body. {I call that finding buried treasure}.

As Lori got stronger she began to LOVE training and her newly found muscles. She realized she could stop the aging process with weight training and good eating habits.

Lori advanced into our Group Personal training program were she would attends 90 % of the time. Recently she shared in group how easy it is to go home after work and yet she drives herself to our studio tired from her demanding job. She knows the hardest part of each workout is walking in through the front door, after that success is 100% guaranteed. She smiles after her workout happy saying THANK YOU.

Lori you are a great role model for all of us, you show up when most wouldn't, you train with the conviction of a athlete. I am happy to have you for a client at Able Body Consulting. Our mission is to help people to help themselves, you have taken that that and lived it.

Congratulations! You have dropped 18 pounds of body fat and added one pound of valued lean muscle mass. You now have a toned shapely body. You have inspired many of us, your boss, other clients and all of the trainers here at Able Body Consulting.

    Shine, Smile, Enjoy this precious gift {yourself and your body}

    Germana Rovinelli C.P.T.

    Testimonial from Lori Prokopenko

Joey and Germana always say "the hardest part of working out is getting through the gym door that first time" and they are so right!

It took me several weeks to get the courage to get through the door of Able Body Consulting, but once there I have never looked back.

I am hitting the big 50 in the next few months and I felt it was now or never. I have never felt or looked better, if I do say so myself.

This gym is so open and welcoming particularly to us older gals who are very intimidated by the other gyms.

Both Joey and Germana are continually encouraging us all to keep going, even through all the whining (mostly mine!)

I highly recommend dropping by Able Body and checking out what they have to offer. You won't regret it!

    November 2006 - Adeline Banks

Adeline Banks, Able Body Client of the Month, November 2006

At the young age of 72 years old Adeline Banks decided that she wanted to get back her health and take charge of her life again. She felt helpless and was very hesitatant to walk through our doors at first like so many before her.

We are very proud to say that with Adeline's great positive attitude and determination in her 8-month journey with us has been a true gift here at ABLE BODY CONSULTING.

Adeline's chronic pain from osteoarthritis limited her from doing the things she enjoyed most like gardening, sewing, and taking walks.

With a willingness to follow our guidlines in modifying her water intake, eating and supplementing correctly, along with light exercises, Adeline felt the positive affects almost immediately.

The exercise program began with light resistance and now, after just having her 73 Birthday, she has progressed from light 3 and 5 lbs dumbells to 12 and often 15 lbs dumbells -- truly amazing, and she continues to progress and with no more chronic pain.

YOU ARE TRULY AN INSPIRATION TO ALL YOU COME IN CONTACT WITH ADELINE and your positive energy is felt everytime you step into our studio.

Thank you for letting us help you reach for the stars.

    Testimonial from Adeline Banks

More than seven months ago I would of not believed that exercise and resistance training would make such an impact on my life, and relieve me of my chronic back pain caused by osteoarthritis.

My daughter in-law Lynn, gave me a gift certificate to see Joey who assured me that by combining correct and safe lifestyle changes that included exercising, eating correctly, adding more water intake with proper supplementation daily, that all this would definitely have a positive effect.

Joey was precise in his program and made our workouts together, fun and easy. Every week I could feel and see the difference. Today I am reaping the benefits,my body has been toning up and I feel much stronger. I have dropped a full size in both my Jeans and tops and my skin has been revitalized. I have much more energy and enthusiasm, so much so that I have started a new job a few days a week -- at the young age of 73.

I am very eager and pleased to say that I would recommend Joey and the Studio to anyone and everyone. It will make a great difference in their lives. As for me, I will continue to train and progress forever and ever.

    Thank you so much Joey.

Jim King, Able Body Client of the Month October 2006

Jim has attended his sessions with 99% attendance. His attitude and willingness to regain his health have left us all inspired.

I am personally so proud of you Jim that I am smiling as I think of how far you have come in a short 7 weeks.

Jim has dropped over 26 pounds, 15 inches have disappeared, he has gained 7 valuable pounds of muscle mass. The highlight is that his body is responding by being able to reduce his insulin requirements to one tenth of what he used to require before becoming a valued client. (All this in 7 weeks.)

Jim has taken back his health. The first step is always the hardest and it’s the one that means the most. How? He was willing to ask for help, (and then to follow directions).

Congratulations Jim King. You have inspired all of us.

Testimonial from Jim King, October 2, 2006

I was honoured by Germana’s request to profile me as her client of the month. I don’t particularly want to call attention to myself, but this gives me an opportunity to say some things which have been very much on my mind during the past few weeks.

The last, what…..eight weeks may have been one of the more important periods of my life.

I met Germana several months ago and I guess it was obvious to her that I was in trouble healthwise. Seriously obese, diabetic, arthritic and injured knees…..and pretty much devoid of hope that I could do anything about it.

Those of you who know Germana know that she has a deep desire to help people. And somehow…..she gently, compassionately convinced me to make one more attempt to try to save my life. And I wasn’t an easy sell, either. Too late, too far gone, too much false pride to be seen like this…..too afraid.

That was the big one. I was too afraid to try, to fail, to look like a fool.

But Germana wasn’t having any of that. With her help, I took that first step. And eight weeks later, I am gratified to realize that it’s not too late. I can turn this around.

I’ve only just taken the first baby steps, I know. But I’m finally on a road that offers hope, and not oblivion. If I can do that, anyone can.

And if any of you who read this are holding back from starting on that road out of fear, I urge you to give Germana a try (and by the way, Joey is pretty terrific too).

These folks are amazing and I’m eternally grateful that they came into my life.
