I found Able Body a few months ago after I deciding that although I was really good at putting weight on by myself, I was not so good at taking it off by myself; I needed help and a partner! I threw the idea of seeing a personal trainer out at my Dad and low and behold he had actually been thinking the same thing himself. Nervous about our age difference, different fitness levels and goals, we met with Joey who reassured us both that there was weight-loss hope for me and increased flexibility in the future for my Dad and that there would be no problems us working together as partners.

We have worked with Cindy and Adam over the last 5 months with great success! I am currently half-way to my weight-loss goal and my Dad is always saying how much better and stronger he feels. It is awesome and encouraging having Adam and Cindy as excited as we are about our accomplishments so far and for always stepping things up to make sure we continue reach our goals. I’m not sure about my Dad, but I never get tired of hearing how good I’m doing! It’s motivation to push through the lunges, the squats, the roll-out planks and the SANDBAGS! We both look forward to our works-outs twice a week and the variation we get from having two trainers! It has definitely been challenging at times but well worth it. We both are excited to continue on in the New Year with new challenges and look forward to the success they will bring.

Thank you so much!

In late July I realized I only had two months left to be healthy and prepared for my big adventure. On October 2nd, along with my son Phil and daughter in law Grace, I was going to run the Grand Canyon rim to rim from north to south. This was a mammoth adventure for anyone but especially for a 64 year old grandma and on top of that I had recently developed a case of runners knee that was proving difficult to heal. I decided it was time for some professional help and stopped in at Able Body to see if a few exercises might help with my knee issue and also prepare me for the trip.

Joey quickly recognized my problem and also suggested that some further training would definitely help strengthen my body in preparation for my trip. I was worried that the trainer he picked for me may not take me seriously and Joey assured me that Adam would work hard to help me meet my goals.

With help from Adam, and the introduction of my new best friend, the foam roller, my knee improved very quickly and I was able to run comfortably again and get in the mileage needed get ready for my trip. This was great, but what was even better was the improvement in my overall strength and fitness. As the weeks went on Adam introduced an exercise routine to strengthen my legs, core and upper body. He also reinforced the need for stretching. Adam not only helped me to improve my overall strength but also gave me the psychological power to realize my dream. After only two months I confidently set out on my journey and accomplished a mammoth run/hike of 40k with an elevation change of 5,000 ft. in a time of 10.5 hours. Pictures of the trip can be seen on dirt4life.com.

Adam and Joey have certainly helped me in my journey but there is still a lot of improvement to make before I am ready for my next adventure in 2012. To run across Scotland, a grueling 153km of wet, windy, muddy hills and fields I will need to be strong both mentally and physically and I know Adam will be up to the challenge of helping me prepare.

Thanks to Adam, Joey and the Able Body crew for believing in my crazy dreams.

My name is Steffanie, I am a 42 year old Mom of two girls. I found Joey, just a few months ago in June/11. At that time I was preparing to compete in November, (this month), in my first Figure Competition (a long time dream of mine, that for many years in my life was looking like would never happen). I was expressing my frustration and disappointment with my current trainer's attitude to a friend, Terry Lonsberry. His words were, "if I was looking for someone who knew exactly how to help prepare me for competition, Joey was the guy". The next morning I woke up and Terry had forwarded me a few different Happy Mondays newsletters. The newletters were positive, encouraging, supportive and talked of the group at Able Body Consulting as a family of like minded people who were all working towards active healthy lifestyles. I knew after reading them, that I wanted the type of training offered by Joey and his team. It was exactly what I'd been looking for. I called Joey that morning. And arranged to come in and meet him.

I knew Joey had the knowledge, expertise and experience, after talking to Terry and hearing about all he had done to help him prepare for competition. What I didn't count on was that within just a few minutes of looking at my physique, Joey told me I wouldn't be ready for competition in November. He didn't advise it anyways. The funny thing was, that even though I had already been working hard for quite a few months, I wasn't disappointed. Not even for a minute. I was Excited! Excited to finally find a trainer who knew exactly what needed to be done, without question, and wanted for me a chance to present myself in the best possible shape that I could for my first competion.

I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with Joey (no matter how long it takes) and have trusted him wholeheartedly from that first meeting. Joey is teaching me a different style of training. One that has me much more in tune with my body, and my muscles. In just 4 months I am already seeing the changes in my physique that I have been working towards. I am starting to take on the shape I will need to compete in a Figure Competition. Changes I had been told at one time would be impossible for me due to genetics. Weight training and healthy living are passions of mine that add balance and purpose to my days. As Joey has said to me, "It's the journey, not the destination...."

I'm LOVING the journey!!! And I know I am taking the action steps required (with Joey's help) to make my dream come true.

Thank you Joey, for all the ways you encourage, support, help, and believe in me!

My Name is Thomas and I'm 12 years old and in grade 7. I started working out at Able Body with Adam in August. I wanted to start the program because I wanted to be stronger for when I play hockey.

Since I started working out I've noticed that I'm stronger while I play hockey and that I have a better attitude toward things. I think it is very important for me to workout because I eat more which leads to a healthier life. I pay better attention in school and I have a better relationship with my parents because I'm not as moody anymore.

Adam makes me workout hard and I'm also learning healthy habits at a young age which I can have forever. I am also learing about eating healthy which includes good proteins, good fats, fruits and vegetables. Adam and I have great workouts together and I think he is a perfect trainer for me.

Thank you for chosing me as client of the month,

Thomas Haarsma

It’s been two years now that I have been training with Joey and his team at Able Body.

My workouts have increased in intensity and frequency during this time and always in a safe and monitored way. I have remained injury free despite my original concern over low back pain. In fact I feel my best on my workout days both physically and mentally. I never thought I would be able to do squats without injuring my back but with good coaching on proper technique this exercise actually seems to help my back.

The combinations of the workouts and nutritional advice including supplements have definitely changed my body. I am now curious how much this old body can transform. I would highly recommend the combination of the whey protein and the branched-chain amino acids for reducing post workout muscle stiffness as well as aiding in muscle repair and growth.

They have the right formula at Able Body where they will provide the knowledge and inspiration and all you need is to do is provide the dedication and perspiration.

Thanks again Joey and Adam for your help and the early morning workouts.

In January of this year I was working on my thesis from home, bored of the rain, and dealing with a kid who was turning into a bit of a handful because of her endless energy. I wanted to find a place where I could learn to work out with her. As a single mom I had always found it difficult to stick to a good exercise routine, and always made finding babysitters my excuse for not sticking with anything. I started working out once a week at Able Body, with Cindy working with me and my daughter Daphne. I never knew how much I would love the personal support that I receive from Cindy.

Since then I have increased my fitness level both with my daughter, and also on my own. I now work out three times a week at able body. Still once with my eight year old daughter, once a week one on one with Cindy, and once a week in a group training class. I have a goal that my daughter will understand the importance of exercise and better nutrition as a lifestyle choice, so she doesn’t have to struggle with making big changes when she is older. I am hoping to lead by example, and working with Able Body Consulting is really helping me achieve that goal. I always leave smiling and sweating! Thanks.

I began training with Joey at Ablebody Consulting approximately 3 months ago. I had always considered myself to be in good shape but over the last couple of years I was having problems with my lower back, my shoulders and energy levels. I am 46 years old 6’ and fluctuated between 150-155 lbs for the last 26 years.

Exercise for me over the last few years has been very inconsistent and I think was compounding the problems I was having with my back and shoulders. Since training with Joey, he brought structure into my exercise program and started me off very slowly and patiently. Having been accustomed to very aggressive training methods when I was in my early 20’s I was grateful for this approach.

After my first week of workouts I really got to understand how contorted and out of alignment my muscles and body had become. Since starting out 3 months ago exercising 3 x per week for 45 minutes, changing my diet, and eating regularly I have gained approximately 40lbs. For me this is an amazing feat as I had been trying to gain weight since my late teens with no luck! Joey thanks for the great coaching and friendship.

Somtimes the biggest changes aren't the most obvious! Growth in self-discipline, and developement of personal accountability can'be measured by a tape or scale.

In January 2011 Sona Raynor, Darlene Carolsfeld and I decided to participate in the Lifestyle Challenge. Adam was our group personal trainer and we all remarked on the irony of the situation. Here we had an ex-wWellington student coaching current teachers. Definitely outside our comfort zones.

Teaching is about knowledge, about process, and about engagement. Slowly and respectfully Adam helped us see how little we really knew about both exercise and nutrition. Rather than preaching, he led us through self reflection and self assessement to self realization. We needed to make some shifts in our lifestyles. He would support us in our journey's.

Getting rid of clutter? When did this get to be a part of our gym routine? Perhaps hauling unused tile will build biceps and not resentments. As we continually reminded ourselves "If we follow the program it will work", and the program does work. Personally I am smaller, stronger, and more agile. I get to work earlier, have more confidence and have willingly parted with long treasured mementos.

The Lifestyle Challenge proved to be the tipping point for me. It's definintely not the change to my body that defines the experience, but rather the changes in attitudes and attributes that have evolved. Was it a challenge? Definitely. Was it worth it? Absolutely, it has changed my life.

Thank you,

Sherry Kissinger

Here is my personal bio about my reasons to join Able Body...

Bob Dendoff , 5 generation Nanaimo boy: 62 years young....

1) Given my age and how I felt about my health, weight, and future, I finally decided to walk into Able Body.... this was not an easy task for me.. You have to believe me, that it took a lot of courage to finally walk through Joey's door.. I drove around the block a number of times, trying to decide, maybe because of a lack of confidence, a fear a failure, rejection,.... I am not sure..

2) The for sure thing was that I knew I needed to seek help with fitness, and I wanted to work with someone that knew his stuff... Through an advertisement, and by goggling Able Body, I did my due diligence, and researched what Able Body had to offer. The only problem was that I had to get the courage to walk through the door...

3) So the big day came, I walked through the door, and there was Joey, he knew instantly that I was in rough shape, and he booked an appointment with me right on the spot, ...................so no turning back now.. I thought...

4) It was the best decision I have ever made. I have put hundreds of dollars repairing my old truck, but never spent a cent on my body.... until now..

5) Four months later, and 20 pounds lighter, with the rest now lean muscle and not fat, I am doing great, major health issues have disappeared...

6) My new goal now is to continue with Able Body, and start a weight lifting program, and to maintain the " new Bob "

So the moral of my story," is do not just drive around and around, walk through the door , you body is able to do what you ask of it.. "

Thanks Joey for believing in me and your insight and personal expertise into repairing the human body...

Bob Dendoff.

I joined the Able Body gym six months ago to try and find some consistency in my workouts and to try and maximize the benefits of my time in the gym. I am 44 years old and have always tried to do some sort of fitness in my life, whether it be boot camp, pilates, cardio, etc. I always found that after a certain period of time, I became bored and unmotivated and felt that I wasn’t getting the benefits that I had hoped for.

When I first met with Joey, my intentions were to become more toned, increase my overall strength and improve some postural/shoulder issues that were starting to crop up due to the nature of my sedentary job. Joey informed me that he would assign me to Adam as my trainer.

As it turned out, I was Adam’s first client. Adam and I have worked together two times a week consistently since September. In that time, I have noticed a big difference in the issues with my shoulders and posture, have developed a lot more core strength and overall tone and strength in my body. I very much enjoy the fact that Adam keeps my workouts interesting and varied. He also is a stickler for precision in performing the exercises correctly - especially those pesky squats - as well as in a safe manner.

I feel that the one-on-one personal training is probably the most beneficial form of exercising that I have done so far. My intention is to continue my workouts with Adam, and I am excited to see where I will be in another six months! I would like to say thank you to Adam for all his patience and encouragement…..Sally

Hi everyone, my name is Renee Cooper.

When Joey asked me to be ‘Client of the Month’ I started thinking back to how I felt before I joined Able Body – the feelings of sadness and frustration were palpable!

I have always been interested in health and fitness but for some reason I could never stay the course. I would start a fitness plan, eat properly and then as soon as I started to see results I would sabotage myself. As a result I would become extremely frustrated, and unhappy over and over again. For me, being physically active keeps me feeling happy, positive and confident. When I don’t keep active I am all of those things in reverse. Not a good place to be!

Since joining Able Body in the Spring of 2010 I have had the pleasure of working out twice a week with Cindy. An intuitive, perceptive young woman, Cindy has guided me and gently pushed me to where I am today. She started me on a safe exercise program, teaching me proper form and constantly changing my routine to keep me and my body challenged! I never miss my workouts anymore, I have quit drinking and I am focusing more on what and when I eat. I have learned so much about food, the importance of protein and several small meals each day. I have lost a pound a month and I have more energy and stamina now than I have had in many years. Life is full of possibilities when you have a positive attitude along with the desire and physical energy to make your dreams a reality. Learning to put myself first - everyday – has made all the difference in my world!

Thank you Cindy – thank you Joey for your constant support and encouragement. You have made a huge difference in my life.

“Age is a number, and mine is unlisted.” .

Hello, my name is Gloria Stevens and this is my mantra and my story. In 2009, at 51 years of age, I made a tough decision to take control of my life and make health and fitness my priority. I was an unhappy, inactive, 5'3”, chubby, 245 lb; mother of four that was making all the wrong choices about exercise, food and alcohol. My consistent unhealthy choices were becoming physically and mentally detrimental if not life threatening. I wanted to make a lifestyle change but I did not know how or where to start. For years, had started many weight-loss programs but I could never keep the weight off and never felt successful. It was not until I participated in a program that emphasized both weight loss and a permanent lifestyle change, that I was able to keep the weight off. Over a period of 9 months I lost 105 pounds, changed my whole viewpoint on regular exercise, good eating habits, portion control and support. It was hard work but I dedicated myself to a goal of bettering myself and I achieved it! I started by committing myself to a 6 day a week program which included clean eating, cardio, strength-training and stretching. Along the way there were days filled with fear, disappointment, self-doubt and anger but slowly and surely those feelings gave way to success, health, happiness, clarity, energy and self-worth. I have successfully maintained my weight loss to date, found a new sense of freedom and I have celebrated with many firsts by participating in a 10K run with my Husband, hiking Mount Benson, rock climbing, kayaking around Newcastle Island and a Polar Bear swim on boxing day.

Throughout my ongoing fitness journey I discovered a desire to help others change their lives and a true passion for health and physical fitness. This has led me to a new and exciting career and path in my life by becoming a Certified Personal Trainer. Although I have much more determination, focus and commitment than I had ever imagined, without being pushed and without a mentor, I found myself wavering and returning to some old habits as some stresses mounted in my life. Old habits might die hard but I was adamant that I was not going back to the destructive life I once lived. I recognized that I needed some effective support and quickly.

It was September of 2010 that I found Joey. Upon meeting Joey through a mutual friend, I had an instant connection with him and asked if I could train with him three times a week. Right from the beginning I knew Joey was the person that I needed to help me to continue my journey, both personally and professionally. Joey's extensive knowledge, thoughtful guidance, professional morals and values have renewed and extended my energy, drive and faith to take my fitness and personal training to the next level. I am back on track, feeling stronger, toned and “hurting” again. I would like to say to Joey: thank you Joey for believing in me and seeing something that I did not and thank you for the honour of being your January 2011 Client of the Month. Grazie mille, amico mio! My family and I look forward to a lifelong relationship with Joey and Able Body Consulting.

Ciao ~Gloria Stevens

Merry Christmas

My name is Sharon Slaughter I am 71 years old and counting.

I have a wonderful family of 2 sons, l daughter and 5 beautiful grandchildren and a wonderful stress free life.

I was at a stage in my life that I thought all was well with me until my son Stephen and Keli thought I could do better. They had been going to Joey for a year or so and wanted me to meet him and improve myself. On meeting Joey I told him " My left side is useless, balance is poor and if I am on the floor I may as well stay there as I will never get up. I also feel exhausted with daily routines".

In five months I am not only able to get up and off the mat, my balance has improved, I walk with a confident step and have tons more energy and I can do daily household routines without a NAP most of the times. I know I have further to go but I am trying. and with Joey's enthusiasm and prodding I know I will make it.

THANK YOU JOEY

P.S. To Stephen

NO I cannot do squats on the wobble board yet but next year at this time, JUST WATCH ME. Your Mother. XOXO

I’ll start by introducing myself, My name is Mary Dempsey, I am 57,and I have always been into physical fitness, and was sure that I knew “everything” I needed to know. Well in January I found out just how wrong I was.

I was used to attending the gym on a regular basis and for all my dedication I was rewarded with injuries, some resulting in operations, many months of physiotherapy, and living with long term pain. This was not fun, and often set me back on my fitness goals.

In January of 2010 I received a gift from my husband, and that gift was Joey! When we started together we made a joke about all the marks on the health form representing my injuries. We talked about nutrition and the proper foods to help me build lean muscles, and of the importance of staying strong as we age. We discussed my goals, and then worked out a program. My goals were to develop my legs which were neglected because I did not push myself, or realize how important it was to have strong legs. I also wanted to trim my midsection, firm my triceps, and even out my back muscles.

We began our journey together with twice a week work outs using light weights and concentrated on form. I keep a food diary which helped me monitor what I was eating and how often. That was a real eye opener, no wonder I couldn’t lose around my midsection even with all the core work!

Fast forward to October, and the results are amazing, there is shape in my calves and a firm sexy roundness to my thighs and buttocks. I have always had skinny legs, so this was a fabulous change. My back and shoulders are strong, lean, and balanced, and because of all the great leg work my midsection has trimmed considerably. The most amazing thing of all is that I have suffered no injuries during my training! I feel stronger more confident and look forward to seeing what lies ahead.

There are many things to be thankful for in life, and health is one of the most important. We need our health to live a full and rewarding life with those we love. Thank you Joey for improving my lifestyle, keeping me motivated and giving me a body I can be proud of!

Turning 40 was the driving force in joining Able Body Consulting. I had gained weight and was leading a very sedentary lifestyle, I was ready for a change.

My husband and I have 9 year old daughter who is mentally handicapped and it has had an enormous impact on my life and my family's. Being responsible for a child with so many needs is a very stressful and demanding life and I had not dealt with these stresses in a positive way. I ate unhealthy foods, did not move my body and at the end of the day would fall asleep or sit in front of the TV in pure mental and physical exhaustion. I was coming to the age where I could no longer hide it, it showed up in weight gain, accelerated aging and exhaustion. My cup was empty.

I started with gusto, I gave a 100% during workouts and ate clean but within a month my old ways started sneaking in when things got tough. 4 months after joining something clicked. I realized how extremely lucky I was to have the opportunity to work with Joey and Cindy and that my lack of integrity around how I coped has not only affecting myself and my family but Joey and Cindy as well. I was ready to get rid of those old coping devices, get a reality check and be truthful with myself. I also realized that my daughters are a huge gift in this journey and that as their mother I need to show them when life is tough you have to find positive ways to make it work. I need to be healthy and strong for not only myself but for them and my husband. I lost my mother in my early thirties to cancer and I don't want my children to have that same experience.

So when things get tough instead of eating I do push ups off my bed. If it is a gym day Joey brings out the boxing gloves and I go for it. I have found balance in eating. I do not worry about calories but focus on clean foods and protein intake. When I wake up my daughter in the morning and I can see she is having difficulties and I know that getting through the day will feel like climbing Mount Everest. I think what can I do to make my mind and body strong for today. Have I drank my water? Do I need a quiet walk in the woods? Do I need to physically get rid of the stress and do push ups? Do I need to talk to a friend? I use this a motivation in stead of an excuse. Not only have I lost weight, and decreased my stress level but working out on a consistent bases and eating clean has also increased my energy level. Not everyday is perfect and some weeks the scale has gone up a pound instead of down a pound but there are is more success than defeat and I am extremely happy with that.

THANK YOU...Shelley Wilkins

I started with Able Body Consulting in October 2009, basically on Doctor's orders. My cholesterol was too high and I was generally out of shape.

I was placed with Cindy and apart from a short time off for holidays and a recovery from a minor surgery, I have worked out with her ever since.

Recently I had my annual physical and the results indicated that everything is back within the normal range. Furthermore, my Doctor even said, ''I am as good as I can be for my age''. Therefore, that says it all.

Thank you Cindy and Joey for helping me change my lifestyle.

Greetings! My name is Bill Dempsey. First, I would like to thank JOEY for picking me as client of the month.

Second, I’ll try not too bore you with my testimonial.

I’ve been a fitness junkie all my life. Hockey, baseball, football, basketball, golf were the sports I played growing up. Running, biking, swimming and a 6 day a week gym attendance. I’ve suffered through all the injuries. Knee, back, shoulders etc. Internally I’ve had high cholesterol, high blood pressure and of course t he heart. I thought how can a man of my physical condition have so many problems? I eat properly. My cardio is fantastic. I work out with weights. I must be doing something drastically wrong.

Here enters my friend JOEY PALLADINI. I’ve known JOEY for several years and have witnessed the results of his serious clients. It was the Brian Chatwin Story that kicked me in the ass. I’ve now been training with JOEY for the last 8 months.

My 2 hour gym workouts are now 1 hour. With unbelievable results. My legs, core, and upper body are the strongest they’ve ever been. My eating habits have also changed for the better. Last week I went for my yearly physical. My doctor was astounded. My cholesterol was the lowest ever. My blood pressure was perfect. At 58 years old I’m now in the best condition of my life.

IF YOU’RE A “DOER” IN LIFE. JOEY IS YOUR MAN!!!!!!!

IF YOU’RE A “TALKER” IN LIFE. DON’T WASTE HIS TIME!!!!!!!

I started with Joey about March 15th, 2010 and was badly out of shape, 40 pounds overweight, my back hurt and my stamina was poor. I felt like a wreck.

Joey started me on twice a week workouts split between himself and Chris. He advised me to change my eating habits to more seafood which is my favourite, more chicken and a smoothie for breakfast. I also cut back on beef and pork.

My strength, stamina and flexibility have improved a lot. My clothes fit looser too. The guys and Cindy are so nice and friendly they make the workouts fun and I look forward to them. My wife Joan, saw what I was getting out of this and started working out as well.

I was concerned about the cost of going to the gym regularly but when I looked at how careful I am about caring for my vehicles on a regular basis, it seemed wrong to ignore my own health to save money. I have not regretted this decision. I have control over my own physical conditioning and diet and exercising this control by going to the gym has been life changing.

A very happy customer,

Randy Murray

I was introduced to Joey through my dad about 16 months ago. I have been training with Joey ever since. When I first saw Joey I was 18, 6 feet tall and weighed 150 pounds, I have always been fairly lean and active, but I wanted to gain some size and strength and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

I am proud to say I have accomplished all three of those things. I am now 20 and weigh 185 pounds, I am noticeably stronger and happy with the changes I have made, and excited to keep working towards new goals in the future.

Joey has been an awesome trainer and has also become a good friend, he has showed me how to train properly and safely, as well as eat healthier.

But more importantly he has taught me not to give up and has shown me just how far consistency and hard work can take you.

Thanks for Everything Joey,

Lucas Sangha

I found the first 2 weeks challenging because my body was not used to the exercises Joey had me doing - you think you are a pretty strong guy and then Joey asks you to simply "lift your leg off the ground" and you can't!

After those 2 weeks were over, both my body and mind found the experience to be very enjoyable.

By tracking my food consumption I was surprised how much weight I could lose in a 3 month period - I added more protein to my meals, started snacking on almonds rather than junk, increased my water consumption and lessened my beer intake and I lost 25 pounds - which turned out to be all fat.

I will continue to track my food consumption and exercise on more regular basis to keep up the progress I have made.

Thanks to Joey and his staff for the Lifestyle Challenge Experience 2010.

When I first stepped into the studio I had no idea I would be matched up with a personal trainer like Chris Joseph. Throughout the last year I have learned more about perseverance and long-term goals then I could have imagined.

I have been planning a career change for a few years now and new right away when Joey matched me up with Chris I would definitely be in for the long haul. There have been ups and downs that have all taught me different life lessons. If I could point out what I have found to be the most important one... Truly 100% believe in yourself. Nobody else can do that for you. This is not something to take lightly it truly is the crux that will either help you succeed or not.

I owe a huge thanks to Able Body for their nutritional and supplement support and guidance to help recover, repair and rebuild properly.Chris kept a smile on my face throughout the aches and pains and has taught me more than I could have imagined about pushing the limits and challenging myself daily. He is truly a dynamic individual with an amazing gift to be able to provide the caliber of personal training that he does day in and day out.

Cheers to many more days just the same!!

Being a Mom of 3 very busy children and a REALTOR® makes it very hard to fit in all the things that we know we need to do....

As a fitness instructor for many years myself, I know the importance of being consistent and persistent in my training. Sometimes as humans it can be difficult to practice what we preach. I have always led an active life and found it much easier to motivate myself to get the cardiovascular exercise that my body needs than the 'ever so crucial' strength training. My youth was filled with a variety of sports and along with that came a variety of injuries... Having the thought that 'Mind over Matter' would get me through did get me through my youth but left me with many vulnerabilities and weaknesses in my 40's that were holding me back.

About 2 years ago I had enough of my aching knees, back pain and chronic tennis elbow so I gave Joey a call. He was referred to me by a friend who spoke very highly of his knowledge and expertise. She spoke of how much he had helped her work through many of her ailments. After she talked about him to me for about 1 year I finally went to see him...

When I first started with Joey I began with baby steps. Joey's support, knowledge and encouragement kept me going. One thing that I have learned from Joey is that there is always a way. If something doesn't feel right he has an alternative. This way we could work around the weaknesses without causing more pain and I could get stronger at the same time.

I believe that strength training is one of the most important things that we MUST to do for ourselves as our bodies take us through life:

  • It keep us strong and able to deal with daily life.
  • It helps prevent injuries and helps old injuries heal.
  • It makes us able to respond to daily physical challenges and helps us be able to maximize our physical existence.
  • It increases our lean muscle mass which in turn increases our metabolism.
  • Strength training is a key component to a balanced life.

One of the best things about working with a trainer is that they make you accountable.... You can't fool them. Joey has pushed me to do things that I don't love doing but know I need to do and feel so much better for it. He is constantly challenging me and helping me become stronger and stronger all the time. I feel better than ever. More physically strong and balanced than I have in a very long time. I feel ready and able to move through my mid life, trying new things and enjoying every minute of it because I can!

    Thanks Joey!!! You Rock!!!

  • Strength training has been the missing part of my exercise routine. With all the information available I could not come up with an efficient plan for my individual needs. Back and knee problems are a part of life for me.

Working under Joey’s guidance I am amazed how I have been able to gain some fat burning muscle. I can actually see and feel the toning and best of all I am losing the excess from around my middle. He has tailored my program to build muscle to support my knee instability and back problems. It feels like they are becoming an issue of the past now.

When I am in the gym my time is maximized and well worth it . I work out smarter, stronger and safer. I feel having Joey as a personal trainer is time and money well spent..

    Violet

Violet and I began with Joey because of Violet’s observation that we needed to start to include some resistance training in our exercise program. As usual she was right. She’s also got me doing Bikram hot yoga, biking and walking, she sure does take good care of me!

I was impressed from the start with the facility and Joey’s approach. He took the time to find out what our goals were, if we had any physical problems and inquired about our eating habits and nutrition.

He then made sure we started the exercise program safely, always supervising and correcting making sure we get the maximum benefit from each exercise without the risk of injury. As we have progressed he is constantly modifying the exercises to continue to challenge our bodies and keep it interesting and fun.

His nutritional guidance has also been very useful. Although we were eating healthy his suggestion to increase protein has certainly helped to build some lean muscle and burn fat.

Thanks Joey for being there at 6AM as you guide us on our continuing journey toward health and fitness. Thanks also to Cindy and Chris although we’ve only worked with each of them once we found them both excellent trainers.

Well I still have a hard time believing its been 5 years since I first started out with Joey. It was just a fluke, that I happened to pop in one day to see what it would be like to start working out in a "smaller" type gym with my own personal trainer.

I had sufferered from low back pain for years, and knew that I needed to get in better shape than I was.I had gone to several gyms in the past, but never had truly stuck to a program.I really wanted to... but it seems that something always came up or I just got too busy with my families schedule.

When I met Joey,I right away felt very comfortable with him and we were able to discuss with ease all my health concerns. He assured me that I could attain my goals no problem, and that we would slowly build my strength to where I wanted to be. After a few months,I realized how much better I felt and actually looked forward to my workouts!

Joey is so supportive and knowledgable and I really feel like he is a big part of my life.I see him 3 days a week, 2 -one on one work outs, and a Friday am boot camp.I can't imagine my life now without my regular workout routine. I no longer have any back issues and I am so much stronger and healthier than I was years ago.

I so appreciate Joey's happy smile that greats me every day that I walk into the gym.All the encouragement, advise and information he has shared with me over the years has truly helped me feel better-Physically and emotionally. I would definately recommend this wonderful gym and their staff to anyone who wants to get in shape and wants a very genuine, caring and honest approach. They can help you achieve any goals that you want to attain.

Thank-you Joey, and Able Body for providing such a great gym!

I'm 57 years old and never felt better! I am stronger, firmer, have great balance, increased energy and endurance, all because I've been with Able Body since 2004. My initial visit was to "just feel better" and if I lost a few pounds that would be ok too. Little did I know that with the individual attention, care and real interest from a trainer I could achieve far beyond that.

My family was very surprised I would go to a gym as I had never been athletic even when I was younger but I needed a change. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, not terribly active and had never picked up a set of weights in my life. I started with one day a week, then replaced that by joining a group session twice a week, which I still attend, and have now have added Friday morning Bootcamp. I've participated in 2 Lifestyle Challenges where I learned a great deal about food and eating habits. In 2008 myself, my husband, sister & 3 -20 somethings went to Wild Play - Tree GO. We had a wonderful time and I completed the course with the 20+'s. What a RUSH!

The next time I went to the gym I gave Joey a big hug and thanked him for teaching me I can do anything. I never would have thought to even go to the park before Able Body days. One of the important things I get at Able Body is that the exercises are explained on how to do it correctly, what muscle is being activated & how to breathe. I still enjoy the encouragement, lifestyle tips and laughter Joey brings to each session while we're "sweating". The moans and groans whenever a "new" exercise is introduced is always good for a laugh because I'm not good with change but with time and persistence I've even grown to like some of them. Just ask Joey about calve raises.

My family is still surprised I've continued working out but I feel so good and that is worth everything to me. Thank you Joey & please don't ever retire.

    Sincerely,

I've never been one motivated to exercise. Like many, I was always saying, tomorrow, next week, next year... I'll get myself in shape.

In 2003, after two years of being welded to a computer desk finishing a Master's degree, I got up feeling old, flabby and practically devoid of energy. I went off to Able Body thinking it would be the same as my one attempt at a gym... I'd last a few weeks, get bored, make a million excuses and quit. Well,it's been 6 years and you'd have to chain me down me to keep me from my weekly sessions.

At 52, I'm in the best physical shape of my adult life, never worry about my weight and I feel more energetic and enthusiastic than when I was a teenager. I've learned the importance of drinking water and eating often and that keeping fit can be an enjoyable habit. Simple changes, enormous benefits.

Thanks Joey, you and your team really know what you're doing!

    Thank You,

Steve, and I joined Joey at Able Body Consulting in June of this year for several important reasons. We are in our forties with three very active children. However, we had neglected our own fitness to the point that weight gain and chronic back pain were becoming serious issues. Despite regular visits to the physiotherapist and massage therapist to manage the pain and work on flexibility, an active life seemed impossible. A family game of badminton or basketball was no longer as fun or as easy as it used to be.

We had visited other gyms but we never achieved our goals. We would work out on the same, boring circuits week after week without any feedback. Were we doing it correctly? What should we do next?

A turning point occurred when a friend recommended Joey. He understood our concerns and has guided us toward a more active lifestyle combined with leaner, healthier meals and snacks. The discussions over our daily nutrition logs have been both funny and informative. The feedback has encouraged us to experiment with food and our children our paying attention, as well. Although we have our slips, Joey has continued to encourage us.

Within the couple of months, we both noticed that we were moving more easily and with more energy. Steve could easily dash up the stairs without pain or loss of breath. My own back pain has eased, and my mobility has vastly improved. With each lesson Joey challenges our abilities with a variety of exercises that are stimulating and effective, yet not beyond our capabilities. Joey’s upbeat attitude and lifetime experience in fitness makes for a most enjoyable and inspiring work out.

We both feel stronger, livelier and more confident. We can also see physical changes as our muscles become more toned and defined. Our family recently enjoyed the ropes course at WildPlay in South Nanaimo – something we never would have attempted 5 months ago. Thanks to Joey, Steve and I both feel very positive about the future. The decision to join Able Body Consulting has been fulfilling.

    Sincerely,

    Keli and Steve Slaughter

After working physically hard from a young age and having a few injuries, then becoming inactive I found myself in extremely poor shape. By the time that I finally decided to do something about it I could barely climb stairs with bad knees, I had a shoulder that was very limited in range of motion and early onset of arthritis in my hips, not to mention several pounds of excess baggage and a bad back. As well Susan had some injuries of her own, with loss of movement in her upper body and loss of strength from in activity. We found that our active lifestyle of riding motorcycles and flying our plane, (and work) was quickly becoming extremely hard to do and was not as fun as it used to be.

I had gone to a gym several years ago with the physiotherapist that was treating me for a problem after an accident. I tried to keep it up afterwards but found it too intimidating and not very friendly. I regret the fact that I stopped going, as my body was the one that suffered. After Susan and I decided it was definitely time to do something about our problems I researched all the facilities around to see what they had to offer. It quickly became obvious that Able Body was the only choice that offers a great atmosphere and an owner with impressive credentials. I was not disappointed when we first met Joey. He appeared genuinely interested in our physical problems general condition. As it turned out Joey has provided a professional, safe, fun, and none threatening atmosphere to work on our weaknesses.

It has been only 4 months since we started with Joey and already both of us have noticed some big changes. We have noticed greater stamina, strength, flexibility and more confidence to tackle certain jobs and activities. He knows when to say “2 more” just when you want to stop. He keeps pushing at a safe and achievable pace for both of us. In spite of the heat, or how lousy the day has been for us, we look forward to our workouts with Joey. He has a great sense of humor that makes the time exercising go fast. The commitment to exercise with Joey every week is what we both needed. The motivation and encouragement he provides has me doing exercises that I would never consider or dream of doing only a few month ago. Now if we could only stick to the right diet, we will be on our way to a wonderful new lifestyle.

The first phone call to Joey to set up an appointment was the best and most important call that I have made in many years. We only regret that we had not met Joey long before we did, as we would have enjoyed the last number of years much more and in less pain.

Thanks Joey, for being an encouraging mentor and friend.

I first met Joey more than 2 years ago, not by lack of motivation for exercising, but to use his private parking space at Able Body so I could see my accountant in the building next over. Returning back to my truck I had some extra time, went into Joey's gym thanked him for letting me park. We talked briefly, he showed me around his facility then off I went.

A few days later I called Joey, set an appointment. I got serious about wanting to improve some of the minor aches and pains I had in my body from my lifestyle. We achieved this goal.

However I got back in my old routine of biking, running and I sprained my ankle. For months later of reduced physical activity and no improvement. I was then sent to an orthopedic specialist then diagnosed with torn post tibular tendon in two locations. This was not fun, surgery was scheduled for me in April as the only other option.

4 weeks post surgery I returned to Joey at Able Body for body strengthening and rebuilding. So far, very effective and I am seeing great results. This is one of the best ways to rehabilitate my body.

Joey the owner, my personal trainer and now great friend is helping me rehabilitate from a surgery - post tibular tendon repair. I am pleased to see my strength coming back throughout my body which in turn makes me feel positive about myself. I know that within a couple months I will be back running and cross country bike riding.

Able Body is an awesome place to experience a professional workout. I think it is the best training facility ever. Joey schedules my training appointments tailored to meet my needs, they are private, confidential and focused on my wellness. Joey is adaptable when needing to modify any of my exercises.

I recommend Joey to anyone who is interested in improving themselves whether it be from injury repairs, basic good body mechanics or weight loss. Joey is knowledgeable in so many areas, I believe he can help improve everyone.

I have been going to Able Body for three years. In my mid forties I started going to a gym fairly regularly, but never seemed to feel better or get stronger.

I started with a ball class and after that finished, I joined Able Body's group weight training class. It was amazing, it gave me motivation to improve and I learned that a lot of the exercises I was doing on my own, I was not doing correctly. With Able Body's trainers help and encouragement, I got stronger and started to have more confidence in myself. I was able to quit smoking, a habit I couldn’t seem to get kick, even though I knew it was killing me.

Even though I was getting stronger and getting lots of exercise, I wasn’t losing any weight, in fact I was gaining weight. I figured as long as I exercised a lot, I could eat whatever I wanted.

My friend did the challenge last year and won. She decided to do it again and talked me into doing it with her. She did so well, I thought why not, maybe it would work for me too. I finally figured it out; I couldn’t eat junk food and expect to lose weight no matter how much I exercised. I followed the plan as best I could, given that I travel to Victoria for 3 days a week for my job. I stopped eating fast food and started planning meals to ensure I had food at home, so that I wouldn’t run out for fried chicken or pizza. I take breakfast and lunch with me for the days I am in Victoria and go to restaurants for a balanced supper. Once I got into the habit, it was easy and I am never hungry and rarely “cheat”. My clothes fit better, I have more energy and am totally motivated to lose the rest of the weight I would like to lose.

I have learned that you need a balanced life style, exercise and a proper diet to succeed and there is no such thing as instant gratification, its hard work and the results as so worth it.

I want to thank the trainers at Able Body Consulting for all your help and encouragement over these last three years; you have all helped me turn my life around.

    Thank you all so much!!!

My name is Brian Chatwin. I am 61 years old and 6’4” tall, 220 pounds.

I just entered my first body-building contest on April 25, 2009 in Phoenix in an INBF Competition called “Best of the West”. My trainer is Joey Palladini and he accompanied me to that event.

When I was 59 years old I decided that I wanted to try to get my body in shape for a competitive body building contest. Why did I want to do this? For years I followed a number of yoyo diets where I would attempt to lose body fat and maintain lean muscle mass. I could never get this to work. When I reduced calories it appeared that my body went into a famine mode and I lost lean body mass and maintained my fat. When I was 30 and got married I decided that I wanted to get rid of all my fat, so I started jogging and dieting. I brought my weight down to 205 pounds, but I still had significant visible body fat. This didn’t work.

It occurred to me that I needed to find someone to help me accomplish my goal of losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time. It was then that I realized that the people that held the secret to this were the body builders. They had to accomplish this because there was no forgiveness visually when they were on stage.

When I was 59 years old I decided that I needed a trainer who actually competed in body building and could, hopefully, transfer that information to me. I didn’t think that I could get this in Nanaimo and thought I would have to travel to Victoria or Vancouver on a weekly basis to work with a trainer. But I thought I would give Nanaimo a chance. I went through the yellow page and started phoning the list of trainers. The first one on the list was Able Body Consulting. I phoned and asked the person on the phone if he was a trainer and he said yes he was. I asked if he was a body builder and he started to laugh. I asked him what he was so funny and he said that he had been in about 20 competitions. I had to meet this guy. That was my first contact with Joey Palladini.

Joey worked with me when I was 59 and we got the fat levels down, but not to competition ready. In the Spring of that year I decided to take some time off and give it a run next Fall, which would allow me to enter a Super Grand Masters Competition in the Fall and Spring.

That September, one day before my 60th birthday, I was told by my doctor that I had prostate cancer. This sent me into a different journey that resulted in an operation that removed my prostate in January of 2008. The operation was a success and the cancer was beat, but I still had my dream.

In the following September, I reconnected with Joey and we started the program. When I started I was 27% body fat and I was 244 pounds. Of that 244 pounds, 67 pounds was fat. 177 pounds was lean body mass. I insisted that we do a body composition measurement every 2 weeks so that I could see that, in fact, we were winning the battle of gaining lean body mass and losing body fat.

The first 3 months were very difficult, as 80% of this whole program was diet. Joey had just completed a contest last year and I insisted on knowing exactly what his diet regime was to get a competitive body building fat content. Joey gave me the diet regime and I attempted to follow it religiously. The first 3 months, I kept having major cravings and falling off the wagon, but I persevered and after 3 months my body re-programmed and it was not at all difficult for me to stay on my diet. I even incorporated a trip to Japan to see my son’s movie premier, in which I steadfastly stayed on my diet regime, by bringing food for the air flight etc.

After 8 months, my body fat was reduced to 10½%. I had lost 44 pounds of fat and gained 18 pounds of muscle.

Joey is a great trainer and a great friend and not only do I thank him for the journey, but in showing me how to maintain a healthy body for the second half of my life.

I started with Able Body almost 2 years ago.  My motivation for going was two fold:
    (1)  to get back into an exercise routine and
    (2)  to get in shape for my upcoming wedding.

A few years before I had lost 60lbs and had kept most of it off but had noticed that the weight was slowly coming back on.  I knew it was time to do something different.  A family friend, Adeline, recommended Joey and Able Body so I thought I would give it a go.  Not being a natural athlete I have always found it intimidating going to a gym.  I was so happy to find a supportive team that encouraged you to push yourself to new limits and actually see results from all the hard work.  It was just what I needed and wished I had done it much earlier.

Our wedding was a fabulous event and I was happy with the results of my training but I knew I had more to gain by sticking with the gym and continuing to work out.  The more I trained the more confidence I had in myself and was less afraid to try something new for fear of not being perfect at it.  I felt stronger and more confident than I had in years. For me that is reward enough in itself.

In September 2008 my husband and I found out we were expecting our first child.  I was so excited but must admit the prospect of gaining 50lbs during pregnancy was daunting.   Joey assured me that with good eating and exercising that wouldn't happen.  As tired as I was on some days going to the gym was one of the best things I could have done.  It gave me some much needed energy and motivation to get me through the rest of the day.   In February I found out I had gestational diabetes and that really forced me to be more vigilant about the food I ate and the amount of exercise I got.  So Joey you were right...I have been eating well and exercising every day and I haven't gained 50lbs!    All of the exercise and food advice I have received has been invaluable.

The support and motivation that Joey offers is something special.  He pushes you to levels you didn't think you had in you and you leave the gym feeling better than when you came in.  I am truly glad that I made the decision to come to Able Body.  No matter what kind of day I have had, I always look forward to my sessions.

Joey you truly make working out fun for me and I thank you for all of your support.  I look forward to whatever challenge you have for me after the baby arrives in May!

I came to see Joey 14 months ago. I was 44 years old and had always been a big kid, having grown to my full height of 6' 3" by the time I was 15 years old. I had been suffering with back and shoulder pain for years. Though I was active, I was never able to find my ideal healthy weight. I started running about 10 years ago, which jumped my thyroid into high gear.

About 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism). I weighed under 200 lbs and was weak. Friends and family would remark on how skinny I looked; a comment I had never heard before. I thought I was finally getting a handle on my weight, but I still didn't feel healthy. I had radiation treatment to kill my thyroid and that was the start of a 6 month weight gain to 250 lbs. This was the point where I said, "I need to go see someone that can help me get into shape and create a personal healthy lifestyle for me".

Over the last 14 months with Joey I have brought my weight down from 250 to 223 lbs and more importantly, reduced my body fat by 10%! Today, I'm in the best shape of my life and I need tothank Joey, for giving me the knowledge and the tools that I need to stay on that path. Joey is a great motivator who's influence is like a coach as well as a friend.I have so much more strength and energy. I feel clean and proud of my accomplishments.

    Thanks Joey!

I came to Able Body Fitness at 55 years old because I was experiencing such pain stiffness in my hips that I was beginning to loose my ability to function on a day to day basis. My doctor had 2 solutions - heavy medication or hip replacement surgery. Putting on my socks tying my shoes were becoming my own Olympic event. I am an avid golfer and I had seen my average tee shot go from 230 yds down to 190 over the past 18 months.

I needed someone to develop a training program for me and more importantly help me get the motivation to stick to the program. Germana has been a treat to work with over these past 9 months. She has kept my program challenging enough that I can see the benefits on a daily basis and varied enough to keep me motivated to keep improving my overall fitness. My strength and flexibility have improved to the point where I am back golfing on a weekly basis and I am enjoying life again.

The facility itself, the other staff members and especially the other clients have kept me coming back week after week. It is the friendly atmosphere at Able Body Fitness that is allowing me to succeed in my goal of overall fitness. I have a long way to go but I know I am on the right track with Germana and Joey..

Having "dabbled" with getting fit at several local fitness centers over the past six years, and having given up because the routines were boring, the exercises were the source of several chronic aches and pains and the staff couldn't care less if we succeeded or failed, it is a relief to find a real alternative: Able Body! Since joining several short months ago, we have come to look forward (as much as one can) to our twice weekly visits with Sue and Joey. Our workouts are exactly the right combination of work, sweat, giggling and work!

Our primary interest, outside of complaining about how hard the fitness routine is on any given day, centers around golf. Our focus, when we first came to Able Body, was to play harder, hit longer and be able to walk 18 holes without aching for a day afterward. Joey assures us that our commitment to fitness for golf this year has nothing to do with the record snowfalls and winter conditions preventing us from even hitting balls on the range. We're not sure we believe him. . .

Feeling the effects of aging when crawling out of bed, or limping off of the golf course are signals that it was time to make a choice between staying active (after sixty for one of us) and giving in to the effects of mistakes in our youth and damage from more current mistakes in our diet and fitness routines. We chose staying active, and Joey and Sue make us believe that was the right choice - from light-hearted challenges to sneaking five more pounds onto the machine - they challenge our bodies and energize our brains. And for that, we are forever grateful.

Writing a testimonial is not easy. . . we don't believe any of them on TV. But we don't care if this one is believed or not - less clients taking up trainers' time means more time for us to achieve the goals we've worked out with them! So non-members can drop in across the street for the smorgasbord - we're quite happy to be doing that work, sweat, giggle, work routine each and every week.

Thanks to all at Able Body.

I started with Joey in a group class with Able Body about a year ago after hearing how much a friend was addicted to her classes there. I struggled through for about 9 months, always going twice weekly and feeling stronger all the time but not super-enthused and not seeing or feeling any wondrous changes. Well, you get out of it what
    you put into it.

It took about a month after seeing the posters for the Lifestyle Challenge to convince myself to do it. I was really afraid to commit - it would mean I might have to DO something. All the girls in my class joined in and we pulled together for each other during the 12-week program. I continued with my twice weekly class and in addition, had a personal training session weekly with Joey.

I attended all of the workshops. I followed the eating plan. I kept a diary of food and exercise and worked on some of my own goals - one being bumping up my cardio. (A quick note here on food - trying new things is marvelous! Elizabeth has some tasty ideas - try the Mustard Dill Asparagus.)

Obviously showing up to class 3 times a week and planning, planning and more planning is work but nothing I have ever tried has ever been pulled together so quickly, so easily and so successfully. Germana talks about mind-body-spirit and that kind of thing usually goes over my head but at the end of 12 weeks I can tell you that my mind, my body and my spirit are working together to achieve optimum health and fitness.

The quiet, strong support that Joey gives so freely is incredible - when someone has more faith in your ability than you, it's amazing how hard you're willing to push. The help and guidance from all the trainers at Able Body has been crucial to my recent success of winning the 2008 Lifestyle Challenge.

    Thank you so much!

In July 2007, I walked through the doors of Able Body Consulting looking for a quick fix in getting into shape for our upcoming wedding. Being an instant gratification kind of girl, and with good old reality TV leading the way with shows such as Biggest Loser, I thought that joining up with a personal trainer was going to assist me in dropping the weight quickly. Boy, was I mistaken. Joey has taught me that weight loss is more to do with balanced nutrition, exercise and a change in lifestyle. I am learning that a healthy lifestyle is a process that doesn't just happen overnight but with the encouragement and guidance from Joey, I am confident that I am heading in the right direction.

In March of 2007, our life took a drastic turn when we were told Barry had Brain Cancer. Three months after surgery, and part way through the radiation therapy, Barry found himself 50 lbs heavier (due to the medications) and having difficulty making it up the stairs in our home. In August, 9 days before we were to marry, Barry landed in the hospital again, this time just as serious, diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung. In November, we signed up for couples training in order for Barry to rebuild his strength. We found that with couples training, it allowed us to give each other the support of getting healthy together, as well as giving each other that little push to make us work just a little bit harder ... or at least me ... right Joey?!?! Being in such a physical job, we knew that Barry was going to need some help in getting his body back to the strength he had before. Joey took the time to find out exactly what Barry had been through, what he needed to do to get back to work, and customized a program that would work for what we needed.

We are very pleased to report, that treatment has now come to an end, and we have come through two check-ups with clear results (no cancer left). Needless to say, it has been a very long road over this last year, and we still have a ways to go, however, we know we have the support and encouragement of each other and a great team of trainers at Able Body Consulting!

P.S. And the wedding is back on for August 2008!

In November 2007 I walked throught the doors of Able Body a very sick man. At only 40 years old I had uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and coronary artery disease not to mention being severely obese. I had spent most of my life a victim of modern medicine, one pill after another and every one making me sick in its own way. It was a seemingly never ending circle that I was starting to think was going to kill me in a very quick way. Being still a young guy and having a wife and 2 teenage daughters I knew in my heart I had to do something but didn't know what or where to make this very needed change in my life. Then after a long search of local gyms and running into the people that didn't want to deal with "people as sick as me" and with the help of my Mom's neverending support and time searching the internet we found Able Body.

A short sit and chat with Germana later I knew this was the place for me. The very next day I met Joey and my world changed. I now have the tools and motivation to acheive my goals, and with Joey's expert guidance, endless knowledge and sense of humor I am turning my life around. For the first time in the 8 years I've had diabetes it is 100% under control with just diet and exercise. Also my blood pressure is normal, I'm losing weight and my doctors are shocked. Gone is the feeling of being trapped in my body and the choking prescription bills -- YAA!! I still have a long road ahead of me to reach my goals but with Joey, Germana and Elizabeth behind me cheering me on and giving that little push when needed, I now know that I'm going to acheive my goals and more. The warm surroundings of Able Body are now a highlight of my week and I can't wait for my next session to start.

THE RED SERGE WILL BE MINE, JOEY !!!

    Thanks for the support Joey,

It has been six months since I began my journey with Able Body Consulting. During that time I have enjoyed an experience that has kept me coming back week after week. Elizabeth has been my trainer and along with Joey’s expert input I have successfully been able to turn the tide on a body that was breaking down at a rapid rate. I am 54 years old and with the onset of age, being tied to a desk, and an overall lack of activity I was experiencing pains and discomfort that was leaving me feeling depressed and sorry for myself. I had been very involved in sports in my younger days and have always be a bit of a gym rat, but when I started going back to the gym on my own I found that I was always hurting myself. I would then be forced to take time off to heal, the body would deteriorate further and the cycle would start all over again.

It was at this time that I heard about Able Body Consulting and decided it was time to try something different. From the time I walked into the Able Body studio I knew I was making the right decision. The staff is consistent in their message and pushes you as hard as you can safely be pushed. I can guarantee that the majority of people that go to the gym do not push them selves as hard as you push your self with the help of Able Body trainers.

I do not hurt myself any more!!

I had a shoulder problem that prevented me from enjoying my current passion … golf. Elizabeth and Joey have shown me how to work with weights and incorporate stretching techniques that have improved my shoulder to almost 100%. I also have major problems with my knees and again with patience and perseverance Elizabeth and Joey have helped me to improve this problem and increase my overall leg strength.

I find myself looking forward to my three sessions a week. I find it invigorating, my energy level is higher and I feel better as well as a lot stronger. I have been given expert guidance with regards to diet and as a result of all of this I am losing body fat but gaining lean muscle.

To sum it up, being part of the Able Body family has been a very positive move for me. I look at my training as preventative maintenance for my future as well as an improved quality of life for today.

As Elizabeth pointed out the day I joined the Studio, “Most of us do not hesitate to invest in the material things in our life, we have car payments, mortgages, etc., but we hesitate to invest in our selves.”

I have invested in myself and I see it paying long term dividends.

    Yours truly,
    Patrick Shannon

In January 2006, after a day of skiing, I woke at Mount Washington unable to get out of bed without extreme back pain. Having recently turned 50 and wishing to maintain an active lifestyle, I sought treatment from a chiropractor. Originally I was receiving treatment twice a week. After he stabilized my back I decided that my flexibility and core strength needed work. My two passions are golf and adult tee ball (slow pitch). Both of these sports require flexibility to perform at a reasonable level. I good friend of mine trained with Joey and recommended that I see him to improve my flexibility. So, I started working out with Joey in July 2006. Within six weeks I could see a remarkable difference in my golf game. My stamina improved immensely. I was finishing a round of golf with strength instead of fading as I tried. I can feel and understand my golf swing and I am striking the ball better than I did in my twenties when I was a three handicap. At slow pitch my shoulder no longer hurts after a game and the outfielders no longer play me as shallow as they used to do. Life is good. I only visit the chiropractor once a month not out of necessity but more of a social meeting. The other side benefits have been a reduction in my waist size and a slight weight loss. Without Joey and the other staff members' encouragement at Able Body Fitness, I doubt that I would have changed my exercise routine. I have three goals over the next year and with Joey's help I know I will achieve them. They are as follows and not necessarily in listed in order of importance:

    1.    Lower my body fat (solution: drink less beer)
    2.    Learn how to putt (solution: mental)
    3.    Decrease the effects of working hard (that one is for you, Joey).

Thank you, Joey and Able Body,
    John Hough

As I reflect on my last five years at Able Body Consulting I am filled with gratitiude. Over the years I have trained with Germana and I now work with Elizabeth. I was so excited to be chosen client of the month. Thank you Elizabeth, Germana and Joey.

When I say five years, this is really very admirable for me. I had the personality of one who would get all excited about a new journey, new activity, etc., however, I lacked the determination to continue. I thought it was more challenging or exciting to try different things. Because of the positive support and encouragement, I perservered and today I am so thrilled.

I know I tested Germana and now Elizabeth's patience when they have to model (more than once) the routines of an exercise. Thank-you for being patient and recongnizing my needs. Today I am more gentle with myself when I accept myself and know I am accepted just as I am.

When I began exercising, I totally lacked flexibility. In order to turn my head I had to turn my entire body. Recently I have been working on my posture and strengthening my core. Today when I hear dialogue such as, 'Drop you shoulders, chin down, elongate your neck,' I know these are words of encouragement because they are followed by, "Wow! Look at that muscle! See how your top is hanging off you! What a tight bum! You've lost so much weight!" A great feeling.

It was while I participated in three Life Style Challenges with Germana and Joey that I became more cognizant that all parts of my life must be balanced in order to be healthy. I became serious about nutrition, excercise, sleep, water: a connection of mind, body and spirit. I accepted the role and responsibility and I accepted that the change does present challenges and hard work. I actually came in 4th place in this challenge and the before and after pictures were amazing. Thank-you for challenging and believing in me.

I feel great today, for the most, much healthier and more energized. I am so grateful for the continued support, encouragement and positive affirmations I hear whenever I enter the studio. As well, I am so appreciative for the love and compassion I receive as we listen and share together during our workouts.

Having been a huge supporter of the Golf Channel, I have probably watched more infomercials about useless golf paraphernalia than most people want to see in a life time! All these “amazing products” have people giving testimonials about how great the product is.  For this reason, I have never been one to put a lot of stock into someone’s opinion, whether paid to say it or not, for a product or service. This is why I find it odd to be writing the same form of an endorsement, that I mock on a regular basis.

Having said that, it is with much admiration and respect that I bring you my story of success with Able body Consulting. I have been training with Elizabeth for two months and have never felt better. I have tried for years to go to a gym, or go on some useless diet that worked for a while until I gained even more weight than I lost! The accountability and support I receive from not only Elizabeth but the whole staff at Able Body, has given me the confidence I need to achieve my fitness and weight loss goals.

It’s not easy, it’s not a quick fix, but it has become an enjoyable part of my weekly routine and I look forward to each session. I have increased my stamina, lost weight, and more importantly, have increased my driving distance by twenty yards. Look out Tiger!

    Thank you Able Body

Wow, couple of the month. Who knew!  Steve and I started this journey with a gift certificate from our daughter. We already knew all about Germana through the admiration our daughter has for her, but as fate would have it, when the guilt of not honoring the caring behind the gift overcame our lack of ambition to join, Germana was away and we ended up with the infallible Joey! How does one describe Joey? I guess the best way is to start by describing the challenge – us.  50+, Steve was basically allergic to gyms, I was in grieving mode re a disability and the thought of “doing it together” was a dream memory from decades past. We were not what you might consider “eager beavers” for the fitness road. Certainly not a task for the faint hearted to take on.

Fast forward 8 months. We both have more energy, flexibility, and strength.  Steve’s found his muscles and lost weight and my clothes are feeling a lot more comfy, dare I say it - even loose. Joey’s ability to gauge the needs of his clients is phenomenal and although he watches closely re your limits, he continuously adds challenges without a person realizing it. Before you know it you are balancing on one knee on a Bosu, or you can’t quite put a finger on it but you know something’s different, then you glance at the weights you just finished with and you’re up 10 lbs. without a hitch. Later he’ll casually throw in a balance board and there you are – balancing like you’re a kid again. He is a fantastic motivator and, as Steve says, good at talking you through challenges. The gym’s motto “Believe in Self” has become easy to adopt, and Steve and I are not only looking forward to retirement possibilities, but most importantly looking forward to life in general.

In addition, Joey’s patient persistence has given us a life style that we can continue to build on for life. He has a subtle knack of educating you as he guides you through the exercises. Incredibly you begin reading the label of every grocery item you grab, look for protein snacks and drink lots of water to enhance the feeling of health that you’ve gained. And as for the “togetherness route”, working together on the fitness road we have re-establish our team of two (something that can go off base when so many years are spent focusing on raising kids and basic survival). And as an added bonus those days when the honeymoon stage is negotiable, Joey has an answer for that called “the medicine ball” (something that you need to experience to relate to the benefits).  So, at this point the “not so eager beavers” are now focused and “eager for our training days”. Joey and Able Body Fitness Training have given us the greatest gift of all - Hope for a healthy, mobile, fun-filled elder hood.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…

When I first started at Able Body Germana asked what my objectives were. I said that the reason that I was there was because my wife felt that I need the training for by own health. Within three weeks of starting, my shoulder which had bothered me for nine months was no longer giving me the pain that I was becoming used to. In the first few weeks I would drive to the gym and sit on the bike to warm up. To me that was boring and I did not want to do it so I began to walk the two kilometers to the gym. At first it took me a good 15 minutes to make the trek and found myself huffing and puffing by the time I arrived. Now it takes me less than 10 minutes as I walk part way then run part way and walk again.

I now have more energy and feel great. I don't ache when I get out of bed in the morning.

As for Joey and his golf training. He told me that he could add another 50 yards to my drives, but all that means is that my drives are 50 yards further into the woods.

Thanks to the trainers at Able Body.

I’ve tried weight training in the past only to become bored or injured.  It’s so easy to find reasons not to exercise but last year I was turning the big 50 and I knew I needed to do something.  I was putting on weight, my clothes were tight and I was forever putting my back out.  When my friend David told me how much he enjoyed Able Body I decided to give it a try.

I felt at home right away. Germana listened to my goals and developed an exercise plan to achieve them that allowed me to develop core strength without injury.  What’s more it was far from boring!  Germana is forever changing my routine.  When I hear that “evil monkey laugh” I know I’m in for something new and challenging.  I now find that exercising isn’t something I’m supposed to do but something I look forward to.

I also have the privilege of working with Joey.  When I set the goal of doing chin-ups he took me seriously.  I’m still working at it but he never lets me doubt myself.  Joey has a way of making you push yourself without ever being pushy; a skill very few of us ever master.

A year after I began training I’m down to my target weight, I haven’t put my back out in months and as for my clothes…I’ve given most of them away as I’ve gone from a size 10 to a size 6.

I’m off to Costa Rica this month and I just have to say thank you Germana and Joey.  At 50 you’ve made bathing suit shopping fun!

I was truly honored by Joey and Germana's request to be profiled as January's Client of the Month.

I have rediscovered something about myself in the past year or so that was right in front of me all along, that was TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF no matter what.

I'm sure many people will agree when I say that when you see physically large younger people being hired at a job position you have been trying to succeed at for the past several years you will begin to lose confidence as well as faith in yourself and think "NO WAY, I DON'T HAVE A CHANCE." That was until I went to the studio.

I was introduced to Joey through Germana because she thought it would be a great fit -- she was absolutely right. I needed to train to compete in a Fire Fighters Challenge circuit that could lead to
being hired as a full time fire fighter for the city of Nanaimo.

To be honest, this has been MY LIFETIME GOAL AND DREAM.

Joey knew exactly what I needed to do and encouraged me to believe in myself. Joey made me train like I never had before: different movements and training methods, nutritional planning, correct supplements. I could feel and see my muscles grow immediately, in fact, I gained close to 15 lbs of hard chiseled muscle in just over year, something I could not achieved without him.

I am very proud to say that through all my hard work with Joey we both succeeded at knocking off close to 1 full minute off my time from the previous year at the Fire Fighters Challenge and have been hired to
work full time as a fire fighter for the city of Nanaimo -- a dream come true!

Thank you, Joey, for being there for me, being a great Personal Trainer, an awesome coach as well as an inspiration. I am also very proud to call you my good friend. Thank you so much for all my success and look forward to many more incredible workouts with you.

Wishing you all the best things,
    Jeff Allen
